Glad everything worked out for you! MUCH better investment than replacing a stocker for that ridiculous price. You should never need ANY maintenance on that diff, it will outlive the truck.
I really want to put one in with my 4.88 gears here soon, still scrambling to get the extra funds for the TruTrac. That is a great price right there!
Did you get a comparison picture of the stocker vs the TruTrac?

The installation was a breeze if you know what you're doing. While watching him, for just a moment, I thought I could do it! lol.
One thing to note, that silver ring in the last picture, around the top of the TrueTrac had to be hammered out flat as it was bent on two sides for some reason and wouldn't allow a tight fit to the differential.

Hey everyone, hope you're doing well. A week or so ago I went to my Ford dealership to find a solution to a problem the truck had been having for a couple weeks prior to the visit. Every time I took a corner the rear of the truck would shudder violently. They didn't dismantle or examine anything, they just threw out a diagnosis based on what I told them. They said my clutch kit failed and that they needed $1041 to fix it. I posted a thread about it. After rotating and balancing the tires, adding Friction Modifier, I decided to go with mSaLL150's suggestion. I found the Eaton Detroit TrueTrac for a good price at Drive Train Specialists (link to 9.75" model) for $466. The install kit was $145 and Speed and Truck World only charged me $125 for the labor. They threw in the Royal Purple for free.

I read a few reviews on this differential and all of them stated that you'd still feel something during the turns and regular street operation of the vehicle. This is NOT true. Every turn is as smooth as melted butter on a marble counter top! I've gunned it from dead stop, taken corners slow, fast, deliberately trying to feel something from the new diff. Nothing. Just smooth, smooth, smooth, operation.
I took it to a lot of pit rock and gunned it through there. Much better traction than the stock differential offered.
Not to mention this was a huge learning experience, getting to see them take the rear of the truck apart. It's nice to finally see how things work.

Not trying to resurrect an ancient thread, but I thought I should add this comment from Eaton.
Detroit Locker
What kind of oil should I use? Can I use synthetic? Do I need friction additive/modifier?
A quality petroleum/mineral based oil works best in the Detroit Locker units. We do not recommend synthetic oil. Friction additive/modifier is not required.

We first went with Royal Purple and after 4 or 5 months it started grinding every time you turned the wheel and accelerated. I called up Eaton and they told me to specifically use 80w90 Petroleum fluid ONLY. I purchased the Motorcraft brand through Tasca.
You DO NOT need friction modifier.
After a lot of research on the web, I found that a lot of people swear by synthetic for this thing. I tried that route and it failed, so I'm going to stick with what the manufacturer told me to use.
