Stuck in the mud - need some advice

So, I was dragging a tree out behind our church today and drove through a surprise swamp with my 2WD.

Someone redirected the overflow drain from the church to where everyone drives in our back field.

I off loaded the tree, thinking I'd still be ok, and instantly dug a hole.

After an hour of pushing, rocking, throwing mud and putting everything imaginable under my tires to get out (boards, wood, branches, ect) I gave up.

Thankfully its just about 100 feet behind the building I live in and there is no rush to get it out. I did reroute the water, but it isn't a great draining area so to wait it out would probably be a week or more to get it dry enough to drive it out.

Someone suggested renting a winch from a rentall place, putting it on a tree and just pulling it out. Does that make sense? How big of winch would I need?

Since it was off the road quite a ways, just a regular old tow would cost me a couple hundred bucks anyway I'm sure.

I'm ok to wait it out and let it dry up but would just assume expedite it if anyone has any ideas?

(doing a 4x4 conversion is not an option, lol)

Find somebody with a 4x4 and have them yank it out.

That reminds me, we did try to pull it out with a 4x4 explorer (just because it was there, I really didn't think it would work)...

Where is the best place to put the tow strap/ chain/ rope or whatever?

X2, find a buddy with a truck. Don't even have to be 4x4 if he's on dry ground and you're not stuck to bad.

go buy a d-ring that goes onto your trailer hitch and just pull your truck from the rear. im assuming the pulling vehicle can pull from 20ft away from you? buy a strap and just keep it in your truck after you get out.

go visit Walmart and buy a Come-Along

they usually have a 3,000 lbs load rating. Unless you are truly stuck badly, that little bit of extra pull should get you going again.

I always carry one when I'm playing around offroad. Saved my butt quite a few times...btw, put a shirt on the line before you start pulling. If the line breaks, the shirt will absorb the energy and keep the line from whiplashing back.

otherwise, how about a few bags of gravel? dig a trench out in front of your tires that gently slopes back up to level ground....about 3-4 ft long. Then fill the bottom of the trench with gravel

A high lift jack may help as well. as long as you can find a location to mount it on. Jack up the truck and put something underneith the stuck tire

If you honestly don't know any one with a truck (seems odd), and you've already tried putting stuff under your tires, then I guess you have to pay to get pulled out. I would suggest a come along but if a Explorer tried to pull you out that probably won't work either.
