Nice product, but for 200 bucks I would really really like to see how well they help with brake dust. Im not saying they will not help, but I can't see how they could do much.

Can we get a video on the dust, maybe day one to day 20 or something?

Can't see the pics...

Checked the video, nice looking product. Definitely something I'd like to get my hands on at some point.

That price is steep, but lets see how they hold up. I mean no cover is going to cool and provide the stoppage of a new brake setup. BUT on the other hand 200 is alot cheaper than a 700 dollar swap out.

I dunno ive never really cared what my brake calipers looked like, the dusting issue is what I want to see.

I just dont see how it would keep much dust off?

I prefer www.kleenwheels.com myself. They actually protect the whole wheel from brake dust and they are about 40 bucks a pair.

I run a set of kleen wheels on the front. Although there is still some brake dust that gets through, it protects about 90%. The only bad thing is they are hard to clean, and since a lot of the dust isn't making its way out, it tends to stay more on the backside of the wheel.

this reminds me a lot of the glue on ones that showed up on ebay a few months ago...
Please explain WHAT makes them worth 200 bucks?
They just look like a pretty $20 cover for your calipers, i fail to see how they would reduce heat and brake fade....

Caliper Paint vs Caliper Covers

Caliper Paint vs Caliper Covers

Which is the most cost effective method?

Considerations to Paint

•Caliper paint kits ranges from $39.95 to $69.95, caliper paint services average $150

•Approximately 8 hr project 3 hrs to the touch, requires multiple coats (3 to 5) and best if you can leave the car on all four jack stands for 24 hrs.

•Tools needed: 4 jack stands, floor jack, lug wrench, wire brush, cleaning product, paint brush, masking tape, masking material
•Annual event
•Unattractive as the paint peels throughout the year
•The caliper is painted, but not designed to have an appealing look on a vehicle

Over a 4 year period:
Average DYI cost total: $200
Average DYI time needed: 32 hours
Average Paint Services Cost: $600

Powder coating your calipers is approx $240-$400, this will require you to take the caliper off the car for delivery to the paint facility and the caliper will need to be completely gutted and cleaned.

Considerations for Covers

•One time purchase of $200
•Powder coated paint, tig welded, aerospace aluminum, built to last for years
•30 minute easy installation
•Tools needed: floor jack, lug wrench, 3/8 wrench
•Reduces brake dust, therefore continually reduces your cost of wheel cleaning supplies
•Increases style of car with a big brake look
•Easily removable for brake service
•Reduces heat on calipers which reduces brake fade

Over a 4 year period:
Total cost: $200
Total time needed: 30 minutes

Questions to consider
How much is your time worth?
What is your long term cost?
How important is it to you to have a better look for less money?

As you can see from the list below, Caliper Covers fall in the same price range as other aftermarket parts, except you are receiving a product made of aluminum, powder coated and custom fit your caliper. Many aftermarket parts, like hood scoops, come unpainted for the same price and is fiberglass, much easier to manufacturer.

2 window louvers- $189 (fiberglass and unpainted)
2 side scoops- $212
1 Hood scoop- $250 unpainted
4- caliper covers- powder coated, aerospace aluminum $200

Mud flaps can run $65 for a pair, there is a ton more of engineering and materials put into the caliper covers.

MGP Caliper Covers attach with stainless steel clips. A secure fastening system that is easy to install, but also easy to take off for brake jobs. The inferior product you are referring to did not go through the R&D to make sure it fit your caliper specifically, they are made of plastic and attach with glue and some with double sided tape and made in China.

Our covers are made of top quality materials that will last, have a three year warranty and are made in San Diego CA. Investigate this product further, you will see that we provide better styling for your trucks with a quality product and company that stands behind it.

Great idea. We do not claim any percentages of reduction as we have not tested it. Our customers have reported back anywhere from 50 to 80%. The covers redirect the air to the back of the wheel, resulting in less brake dust on your rims.

We have tested our covers with a thermal heat gun and they do reduce the brake caliper heat by 25-50 degrees, as seen on our website's video page. The covers are aluminum and act as a heat sink. Here is more info on heat sinks work: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heat_sink

If you buy MGP Caliper Covers, you will enjoy these benefits, but this is mainly a styling product and the reason our customers use our product. We call out these benefits because it is nice to know that there is some functionalality with them, unlike so many other aftermarket styling products.

There is a machine shop in my area that makes these out of aircraft grade aluminum using a precision CNC machine for like $100 for a set of 4 for ANY car or even motorcycle.

And they have a much better clipping mechanism.

It's nothing new.

I don't see why any of that is relevant. I could just as easily put up a list of aftermarket parts that cost alot less than $200.

For $75-$100 I might be interested in a black set... Without the MGP logo of course.

I doubt you'll get very many orders from this site with a $200 sticker price.
