Exclamation Cannot shift out of Park. (2004 FX4 SCREW)

Hey guys, hope everyone's doing well. I can no longer shift out of Park without depressing this white plastic circle on the left side of the shifter (Cupholder housing removed on flow through).

Any ideas?

Thanks guys,
Anthony

Hmmm, until someone comes up with an answer I would leave the truck in neutral and set the parking brake, lol.

I bet its the sensor that detects when you press the break pedal.

Well, I've been manually pressing down this plastic release that lets the stick, shift. I have the housing with the cupholders, off right now.

How do I fix this sensor?

Check and make sure the brake pedal switch is working. See if you have brake lights when you depress the pedal.

check the fuses, there should be one specific to the shift interlock.

It sounds like the relay for the brake shift interlock, they've been known to fail from time to time.

Isn't there a actuator that moves when you press the break? If there is that could be bad.

Yes my F150 used to have a very audible click when I pressed on the brake to shift out of park. I had the same set up as the OP does with the flow through console.

Look under the dash where the brake pedal is you should see a black switch with 4 wires coming off of it and a yellow clip. This is you brake pedal switch it tells the shift interlock solinold that you are pressing the brake to shift out of park and it also will cancel cruise control when you hit the brake. If you put your hand on the switch you will feel that it pivots up and down. When you move the switch up and down with the engine running the little white button in your console should move down. If this happens your brake switch is bad and need to be replaced.

He already stated the brake lights come on, which means the switch is good.

I had to replace this part in my wife's 2002 Ford Escort ZX2, It was the shift interlock selenoid. Not to bad to replace but I've never changed one in the new F-150's so I'm not sure how bad it would be. The part through Ford was about $115.00.

I also asked about a Fuse and a buddy of mine who worked in the body shop at the dealer said that they always just replace the selenoid in the service dept.
