Over Filling Tank
Over Filling Tank
Any suggestions? When I fill up my 07 the pump clicks off right at the very top of the fill tube. I've had a couple tanks lately were gas has puked out. It doesn't matter what station this happens at. My truck did this when it was new and recently, the last 6 tanks, have been a problem.
Any ideas? My trucks warranty is over, so I'd rather try a few things before shelling out cash to the dealer.
Thanks

Try filling it at a faster rate, not sure if this will help, but most cars seem to take less fuel before they click off the pump if they are filling quicker. It may have something to do with the pressure created by the increased flow.
I just had this happen to me on my '05 Screw the last 2 times at two different gas stations. The pump is on the highest setting, shuts off, I pull it, by the time I turn around to put the cap back on theres is gas rising out of the fill neck and thankfully draining down a hole so it falls BEHIND the paint and not on it. I'd say around 20oz or so of gas. Then it just goes back down the fill neck, it doesn't stay filled to the rim. Maybe there is a vent for the gas tank that's plugged?
I don't have an NBS, so I can't relate, but I noticed this happens to me at one gas stations (BP, Shell, etc) but Murphy's and Hess' stations don't. I think it has to do with pump pressure.
Hmmmmm....
That's weird. I always have the opposite problem. In both my car and my truck, it seems like the pump will shut off, and I can sit their and slowly squeeze another $2 into the tank, and still never see the gas up in the neck ???
I mean, I guess it's good I'm not spilling gas all over the place, but I'd like to know it was "almost" completely full anyway.

It's happened to me the past 3 tanks I've gotten! Pisses me off, then it gets all on my hand and on the truck.

It's only happened to me at Petro-Canada. Never happens at the Mohawk or Husky's that I usually fill up at. I usually have the same issue that Fish has. I fill it up, it clicks off, then I can still put another $2-$3 in.
The pump clicks off for a reason. When you squeeze that extra fuel in, your actually filling the airspace that's built into the top of the tank. That space is there to allow room for the fuel to expand and to prevent raw fuel from getting into the emissions system. The charcoal canister is designed to handle fuel vapor, not liquid fuel. Which will get in there if the tank is topped right off.
