Are you sure it covers this? I did not think the warranty will cover normal maintenance items. Maybe the "extra" to remove broken plugs is not normal maintenance, I don't know, but if it pays for a plug change, I will be surprised.

It won't cover the spark plug change but if a plug is broken off the extra labor is covered. Could save you $$ if the head has to be removed.

Ok, got it. Since they have come out with the removal tools, and learned a little more, I haven't heard of anyone having the head removed but guess it could still happen.

Wow, i just called one of my local dealers and was quoted a price of $274.95 for a plug change. And , they cover the broken plugs, if any! Sounds almost to good to be true.

Called another dealer and they wanted $395 plus $200 per plug!

That's the best price I have heard. They must want the business.

is not the gas that determine the life of the plugs, mine were clean on the tips, but the shell was rusted at 41k, so if i had waited more, i could had a broken plug, FORD recomends to change them at 60k because this problem, not because they don't last, the plugs are 100k plugs, but the design was a flaw, so they rust and get stuck prematurely.

I now have a peace of mind knowing i have new plugs and that they have NICKEL ANTI-SEIZE, so at least i have another 40k+ miles before I have them change it again, in the mean time I can see what other FORD owners discover over time regarding the now coated plugs with anti-seize, and see if other desing is made.

plus $387 is nothing compared to the $2k you'll spend on lifting heads and your engine never will run the same. and now my truck runs better too!

I'm going to change mine this weekend myself...The dealership around here want $250 for changing plugs and $80 per plug that breaks, so $250 best case scenario $890 worst case. I have 83K miles on my 5.4, the dealership recommended that I get the EFI cleaning before I change the plugs. So this friday i'll take it in get the EFI system cleaned, then hold my breath and follow the TSB word for word.

I was at the dealer today because my window switch crapped out. They quoted me $329 for the plugs if they don't break. The guy said most of the 5.4's they do don't have any issues. What scared me was he said that one 5.4 with over a 100k miles they worked on cost $1400 because 7 plugs broke. That's ridiculous and I think Ford should cover broken plugs because of bad engineering.

We all agree, if you read back since the problem became known, but it is not happening.

325 for a regular change and even though they broke one they still charged the same price for me. Let's just say I paid and ran before they hit me for some more dough.

i agree with nick. ford know's this is bad and they should do something about it. i normally do these type of things myself. but it scares me to do this, and why should a plug change be such a job as this sounds to be? and paying $400 and up to change plugs just sounds rediculous to me. just m.o.

I'm like everyone totally agree that its total BS, I was able to change my chevy's plugs for $50 bucks and no worries. Ford knew this was a poor design they just didn't want to spend the extra doe to get it fixed. It would take years to get this whole thing situated in the courts sad to say. So do I trust some ford mechanic that gets paid by the job or trust myself and follow the tsb?

gotta admit it leaves a sour taste in the mouth of f150 owners. had i known of this before i bought my truck i would have thought twice about it. it is not good PR or customer support on ford's part. should take care of your customers a little better than this. either do the plug job for a decent price no matter how many break, and then replace them with a new and improved plug that will have no issues. gotta admit some owners who have been burnt on this will not buy another ford. Since when should something routine and basic as a plug change be this involved and costly. these are $30,000 plus vehicles that should be backed up better than this. they knew this was bad and you just stick owner with this? totally wrong.

wow

Thats a great deal!!! LOL

I ended up paying a little over $800 for plug job (one broke off and the dealership almost couldnt get it out) and I needed at least two coils because they had gone bad. They were expensive hundred something each i think.

This was at Bell Ford in Colonia, NJ so I wouldnt doubt I got ripped off.

But a local shop also told me that a plug job on the truck could run more than a thousand if all the coils needed replacing too. PLus the plugs require a special socket and the back ones are real hard to get to.

Changing plugs is such a simple thing to do...or should be..
