04+ Spark Plugs

What are people paying to have their plugs changed on the their '04-'08 F-150's? My dealer quoted me $375. That seems steep to me.

Thanks,
mikebaby

Thats not too bad, Cause if you do it and break one the price will be 2k+ so you can pay or roll the dice there are a ton of guys that have done the change do a quick search on this

Mine was $350 minus a 10% coupon. The more important question is what is their success rate? You need to make sure they know what they are doing. My dealer has a very high success rate but some do not and it can end up costing a lot more.

Does the 375 include removal and replacement in the event they break a plug or more then one? Yes, as it was mentioned, it can get expensive if they break one and can't remove it with an extraction tool. But spend time reading all of the threads on this topic and you'll find very few have needed to remove heads.

How many miles do you have on your truck?

I was quoted $230 for my truck....best case scenario...price was going to change if plugs broke.

If that includes the plugs, that is cheap. The plugs are at least $10 each. Thing is, you don't want it to be so labor cheap that they don't do it correctly and end up breaking some and running up a BIG bill. You need to know they are being honest with you and that can be a problem. It has bothered me as there is an incentive to break the plugs, if they are dishonest.

My dealer can be a little pricey, but have never seen any indication that they are dishonest.

I called a different dealer and the cost was $292. I did ask them what their success rate was for changing the plugs, and he said that there is a TSB, and his guys that do this sort of work rarely have a problem. He did say that if a plug broke, that it would be on my dime to fix the problem.

At 56k miles, I'm a little concerned about breaking a plug and having the job go up $500

If they know what they are doing and have a high success rate, don't worry so much. Mine were changed with no problem at 65,500. Another member on here PMed me for my dealer's name, drove from another town and had his changed. He had 130,000 on his 2004 and had no problem. Took a little over 2 hours. There is definitely reason for concern as it can cost more, but if they know what they are doing and have a good success rate, odds are in your favor. The only other option is to get the supplies, including making an extraction tool, and doing it yourself.

My truck was running great at 65,500, I just got nervous about it and had it done. The plugs were in great shape and it runs no better with new plugs. It could have gone many more miles and they would have still come out fine. I do think it's important to run a gas with a good detergent. I use Shell, Texaco, Chevron or Conoco.

You need to use the search feature, Advanced Search, and enter key words such as "sparkplugs 5.4" and do a lot of reading about the plugs for 2004- early 2008.

It's possible that some of you being quoted the higer prices, it may include the boots. That is an extra $100 for those things and it is highly recommended to change them. Some dealers may automatically include them in a quote. I would check.
