what is with the calipers on these 04-08 trucks

Today my 4th and final caliper that hasn't been replaced finally started sticking...what is with these garbage calipers?, I never had to put them on my ranger in 105k,after tommorow, all of mine will have been replaced before 73k. This last one made the rotor so hot that it melted my center cap and it fell off,now I'm sol because the 178's are discontinued. Has anyone had this many issues? And where should I go about getting centercaps? I want new wheels but not this soon

If the rotor got hot enough th melt the center cap I would say that your wheel bearing did also. At 250 degrees the grease in the wheel bearing will melt. The bearing will be the next thing to fail.

No problem with my '04, are you riding the brake when you drive?

You are the first I have seen with that problem! That is really strange. There were some early 2004s that had smaller calipers. They started using larger calipers at some point. I wonder if that might calculate into your problem. The wheels made for the earlier 2004s would not clear the larger calipers that were later used.

About a month ago my left front was siezing, I replaced both fronts with rebuilds. 2004 with 65000kms.

There were 3 different listings in the book for my year, 2 of them didn't match, 1 was out of stock so we went up to 2005 and that was a perfect match.

I don't know if it's possible but you may want to look at converting to the larger calipers, if the problem continues. That is, if you can confirm that is the problem.

True, its just interesting that they all went within 3k miles. The seals were bad on all of them and the fluid was changed at 60k

What calipers are you using to replace the failed ones?

I'm extremely suspect of most aftermarket rebuilt calipers, but that's just me.

And too, I've seen more rusty/corroded/seized caliper slides as of late than I have failed calipers.

I lubed the slides last time I did the brakes, and I am suspect of them too, but I can't afford oem ones, and the slides were all free
