Tire upgrade but need help

I have a 06 lariat smokestone supercrew with 20'' wheels. I'm going to purchase the 2'' leveling kit and was wondering what size tire can I get ?

Also does this add much overall height to the truck I don't want to run into issues to pulling the truck into the garage.

Thanks.

I have the same truck, so my pics will REALLY help you decide. I went with Mickey Thompson Baja ATZ's in the 305/55/20 size after I installed an AutoSpring 2" leveling kit.

Regarding you question concerning overall height, it isn't a problem for me. My antenna hits the door when entering my garage, but it did that with the OEM tires too......

305-50-20= No change in height from factory. Mine came with that size tire.

Your truck was outfitted by Southern Comfort, it most likely had a leveling kit and larger tires installed when they did the "conversion"

No one got 305's from the factory

Agreed. That is not the factory tire size.

You should be able to go up to a 33" tire with no issues. Width seems to be a bigger factor on the level kits than height though. My 305/50/20s which are about 32" actually rub the sway bar slightly on full lock. Not an issue since it only happens in taight parking lots. I have a 2.5 AS spacer with an AAL in the rear and have no problems getting in my garage. But I guess it all could depend on how tall you garage door is?

Obviously tire choice comes down to several factors. In my case, most all the AT tires I was looking at (which would be ANYONE who makes an AT tire ) performed pretty similarly according to user and webzine reviews. At that point it came down to a matter of $$ and aesthetics.

I ended up choosing the Mickey Thompson's due to their aggressive look. Yeah, most all AT's look aggressive, but the Mickey's really have a VERY unique look. Couple that with the fact that everyone and their ma are running the Nitto/Toyo/BFG's.....The choice in my case was clear. The Mickey's do cost slightly more, but they are definitely worth it IMHO.

I was also limited by the fact that I wanted a 20" tire no larger than a 33-34".

I have seen trucks with 32" 305/50's and they look odd to me. Too squat. So I went with the 305/55. More sidewall.

Good luck with your search, and post up pics when it's all said & done with!!

Here's the pic I was referring to (in the PM) regarding the step bar.....

rms8 , That rear bumper looks coolas hell to . I was refering to the front bull nose one.

I'dlike to add some accesories to my truck and I like very much what you have done.

The things in mind are 2'' leveling kit tires simular in size that you have . and a tanau cover.

I'd like to change my wood grain panels in the cab to a carbon fiber look.

I will get pictures up soon

Thanks for all the help everyone

With 35" ProComp Extreme MT's and a 2" leveling kit, I still fit fine in my garage. Standard 2 car, nothing fancy and it fits with plenty of room to spare height wise.

I got tired of hearing the antenna slap the garage door everytime I pulled in or out, so I replaced it with a much shorter one. Looks much better IMO.

All this talk about the garage and your truck fitting is great, but I would like to add that you should measure the height of your garage before you do anything if fitting is a major concern to you. There is no standard when building a garage and ALL of them could be different. I myself hardly (> 2inches of clearance) fit in my parents garage (height, length will NOT fit) and I am stock height on stock tires (for now). When I get a leveling kit and 35's, there is no way I am fitting in their garage.

Yeah, that's what mine does. I know I could find one if I even attempted to look, but where did you purchase yours & do you have any pics?

Thanks

Yep got it on Ebay for 10 bucks. It's a 14" black antenna. They send the antenna itself and then 4 or 5 adapters with it. One of them worked and threaded right in. No problems at all.

I haven't taken direct pictures of it up close, but you can kinda see it in these two pictures.

I measured the door at about 82'' tall . And as close as I could tell that gives me about 5''-6'' of clearance at this current set up.

I wouldn't worry about measuring the door. If you know it fits now, pull it in and measure from the top of the tail light on the cab to the roof if there aren't any other obstructions. Hopefully when your garage door is open, it goes above the opening in the house so it doesn't make the garage shorter if that makes sense.
