Exclamation 04 xlt lariat died, will not restart

I was backing out of my driveway and engine just cut off. When I turn the key to the ON position the PATS light comes on steady, and the EVAP purge valve makes a constant humming noise. When key is turned to the START position the temp. and odometer on info center turn to dashes and starter does not crank. Can hear a faint click from fuse box area in passenger kick panel, but that's all. Hooked up Code scanner and get an error message that says "Could not retrieve DTC's". Replaced the PCM and still have same problem. Any ideas?

Have you installed anything new recently or had any work done?

OK, The fuel pump control module fried and took the PCM with it. When put new PCM in it fried instantly. R&R fuel pump control module and put in a fresh PCM and everything is back to normal. $$$$$$$$$$$

On the Pre's, they were XLT Lariats.

Yeah my dads 91 in '91 was a XLT Lariat. Glad you got the problem figured out though.

I hope it was under warranty, I would have gone on a rampage if I had to pay for 2 PCM's!

Yeah, between this and having the limited-slip clutch pack replaced i've gotten my money's worth out of the extended warranty. Only cost me the deductable each time.
