I just wanna go fast!

Im not sure how dumb this is about to sound but im in college and my roommate has a sick fast mustang and its manual. he guns it in mostly first and second all the way to like 40 and its enough to put my big body in the back of my seat. My question since my truck is an automatic, from stop can I put the truck in first, then as im flooring it shift into second, then shift into O? or is this bad for the truck other than gas mileage?

I would just leave it in Drive because it will shift faster than you can shift it. I mean unless you had a manual reverse valve body trans then you would have to shift it. I would leave it in Drive and just lay into it man. Its the best way.

starting in 1st and manually controlling the shifts to Drive will get you nowhere

the truck is more responsive to the rate at which you press the gas pedal.

try something and you'll see what I mean. from a stop do the following
1. Floor the Truck - Push the pedal down to the floor, but do it in a controlled manner.

2. Floor the truck again - This time, get the pedal bottomed out as fast as you can...really nail that puppy.

I don't know why, but when I do #1, my truck does a sickly little 5-6 ft burnout and takes off....but when I do #2, she will light up the tires and easily lay down a 20+ ft dual burnout

btw, way wrong vehicle for going fast. I really recommend you don't ever break 100 mph in a truck...130 mph is extremely scary

I somewhat disagree with you guys, some of you know that by now.... I think that these trucks have good potential for getting up to speed. These trucks are on the heavy side but they have good potential to make good sport trucks (I am talking mainly the reg cab group as the screws and extended group are just mammoth.) but the screws still have good potential for straight line stuff.

These trucks have hydro formed fully boxed frames... Which in the case of large power numbers is a great thing. it also translates into a good handling truck if you want to set it up in that manner ( i will be). The 5.4L shares the same block with the the 2v 5.4 which the lightnings are running with small differences in the mains and the oil pump. we all know what kind of power the lightning guys are running. The forged internals for the 2v motors can be put into these motors to make them stout enough to handle large power numbers. the heads actually flow better than the 2V motors which increases possibilities.

The list goes on with pluses but weight is a big factor. I know a lot of you guys disagree. but everyone has their own opinions. I plan on making my truck into the awesome sport truck that i know it can be.

It's a lot easier to make a car fast than a truck. It's very possible, just takes a lot of money.

that's a true statement... but you cant haul another car with a car.... easily at least. I just like everything I own to be up to potential. I have a bike so speed isn't something im lacking. i guess with a truck being fast you just cant get that look on other peoples faces when you pull on them by a couple lengths.... These 04+ trucks are known to be slower. and if you make them into a quick truck... no one expects it.
