If it was suppose to be F By 4(2), what does the F stand for and, as mentioned, why is the X capitalized? Do people with a BMW drive 325 "by" i?

Glad I got this cleared up . I figured I was right cause I personally think f by 4 sounds ridiculous...

It's a "code name" for a particular package option. Z71, ZR2, FX4, STX, etc... Companies use these code names to refer to a particular option package.

It is F X 4, not eff by 4 because the X is upper case and the time sign is lower case.

Lets look at XT, XLT, STX none of it stands for anything, its just a package and Ford wanted to be differant then just 4x4 so there for its FX4.

This is one of the best threads I have read by far.

FX4 = F-' sweet Ford x 4wd

FX2 = F-'n sweet Ford x 2wd
