Someone clear this up?

OK. I have a friend who swears that FX4 and FX2 and pronounced "eff by four" and "eff by two" (like four by four). I personally think he is wrong, but I could be also. I have always thought and said "eff exx four" and "eff exx two" (like the TV channel FX, hahah). Who is right? How do you say it?

I'm not an expert at this so take my opinion with a grain of salt. I would definatley say your friend is wrong but I think how ford meant the sticker to sound was like "four by four" and "four by two". I alway's pronounce it "eff exx four" and "eff exx two" though it's easier to say it that way and everyone I talk to pronounces it that way also. One thing i've never understood was where the hail did chevy get the bright idea to call their 4wd's Z71's and the 2wd Avalanche's Z66's?

There is no BIG deal really. I was just wondering who was right (and not only so much as to who was right, just the correct way to say it)... so by f x 4, do you mean "eff exx four"?

I think chevy uses the Z rating for just about everything, dont know why though?

Off topic, but kind of the same... I have always said Audi as "awe-dee", while I hear alot of others saying "ouw-dee". Which is correct? hahah

Its the RPO codes....just like how Z28 is/was an RPO code on certian Camaros. Its not just some random made up deal.

Z71 is the RPO code for the off road package option.
Z66...not exactley sure what it consist of, maybe a 'sport' type suspension option.

Guess they just thought it sounded cool enough to put on the side of the truck or something.

Why would Ford put the initial of the word FOUR and then put the number 4. It is F X 4. Besides the correct way for 4x4 is 4x4, not FX4. Notice the letter X is caps and the times sign is a little x.
