PTM Bumper

Went to the body shop today to get a qoute on painting bumpers for my truck.

I would provide new oem paintable bumpers from ford. There job would simply be painting the new bumpers and the darn shop wants $1200 to do the job.

add the price of the new bumpers and i am out about $1900

alot of shops flat out screw people, i know they are a business to make money, but shooting paint aint rock science. now with that said there is alot of overhead, but i would rather have alot of customers and be known for a good price than a overpriced shop that does the same quality work.

Wow that's really high. Just remember though, with paint, you get what you pay for. Don't cheap out or you'll end up with problems down the road.

My guess is they really don't want to mess with your job, so they just bid it high so if they did get it at least they made a good margin. Find another reputable shop and have them bid it.

getting what you pay for is one thing, but that is highway robbery. look for a shop that mixes their own paints, alot cheaper than a shop that buys all there paint. when i had my ram, i had the hood and whole left side painted, they paid over 350 bucks a pint for the pint, them retards bought it directly from mopar, i'm glad they did because it matched perfectly, but in all honesty a guy who is good with a color gun can do the same thing. with that color of truck it won't be hard to match, nor would paint be real expensive compared to a red or yellow

No they said they mix thier own paint. They also said they would be a little higher then most, because of the brand of paint they use is top of the line.

Also said they would need to do 3 hours of prep on each bumper before even shooting them. I am not sure if that is true... i thought the paintable oem bumpers are already primed black and ready to shoot.

Will try to get a few more estimates but in this bfe town there are only a total of three shops.

they come primed, now if they were scratched down to the metal, then i would want them to be primed again. 3 hours of prep work? does the body guy have 1 hand? scotchbrite it, tack cloth it, shoot it. get some quotes of powdercoating while your at it, i hear it's more durable and very similar in price, or in your case way way cheaper.

I am pretty sure they wanted the job. They did not want me to leave til they could give me a full breakdown of the estimate. even tried talking me into a two tone paint job on my truck.

even tried justifying the price by the quality of paint they use. And how that paint company does more research on paint color, matchability and overall quality.

So to keep me in there office for over 45 min. i know the wanted it and thought they might get away with it.

X2

Just get them powered coated. I was given a price of 225.00 for both front and rear with me taking them off.

That is a ridiculous price. My wife's '08 Expedition had to have a new front bumper cover painted and installed from when I hit a dear. Local Ford dealer bodyshop did the repairs as the have one of the best reputations around (something their sales guys could learn from). They paint matched the cover and the paint has a lifetime warranty of any defects. The paint job for the cover was just a hair over $350, something like $362 and some change. Don't remember the cost of the bumper cover.

My PTM Line-x was 75 a bumper, and they shot it over my chrome stockers.

Just another option.
