Yes, I was thinking angle grinder as well. And not a Harbor Freight special either.

Don't they make some kind of bumper paint? Isn't that what you would want?

You could try a wire wheel on a angle grinder, but I think that it will take a long time. You could probably get both of them blasted for $100-$150, and it would only take 30-40 min, depending on how much pressure and the media that they are blasting with.

As for painting them, I would either get them powder coated or shot with epoxy paint. Both are alot more durable than standard auto paint. We have all our dump truck boxes shot with epoxy paint before they get mounted to the trucks and the paint holds up great.

I didn't know you could get epoxy paint to look good. does it take lots of sanding, or does it just depend on how it's sprayed?

The only time I've used epoxy paint was to paint a steel angle that was holding up a concrete staircase. It was really thick and gooey stuff, but the can wasn't new either.

Can you get it colour matched in a spray can?
Let me know if you have any details, if I ever have to repaint my roush grill, I'll try epoxy paint.

That is one of the main reasons I upgraded to a Lariat. I wanted a 2-ton but did not want chrome bumpers. Get the bumpers PTM and then get the wheel lip moldings.

It ouwld then look really similar to a Lariat.

I talked to my buddy that owns a body shop and he said it's no problem to paint chrome even the tacky looking lariat grilles. You should go to a body shop and talk with them.

Unless theres some kind of new adhesion promoter out there that i dont know about.. you cant paint chrome, the paint will not stick to the plating.

The grills are plastic with a chrome coating, not the same as a chrome bumper

I just picked up a rear painted bumper that I'm gonna attach my lights to. We'll see how much it costs to get that stripped and painted.

But no powder coating here. It doesn't hold up that well if you ask me. I'll talk to the local body shop. There is a guy down the road who works out of his garage I'm gonna see too.

Your truck would look much better with the bumpers painted like that. If you hate chrome bumpers then theres no reason to even ask for anyones opinion

I was given a price of 225.00 for both front and rear bumpers, sand blasted and powder coated.

Going to do it this spring when it warms up a bit, that way it's a little more fun taking the bumpers off outside

2-tone Lariats get PTM bumpers. Monotone ones get chrome.
