They do have a slight blue tint to them but man the difference they made especially the fogs, if you are going to get the H13 make sure you get the 9005's!

Does the blue tint create any problems driving in the rain?

Honestly, there is no problems with the vision-x bulbs if anything you can acutally see better with the bulbs. But the thing that really helped the most was the 9005 fogs.

Never tried the Vision X but I have had the SilverStars and currently have the Piaa's. The Silverstar's were nice but they didn't last a year. That was on an 04 I had. The 07 has the Piaa's and I love them. Look as good as the Silverstars and should last longer.

There is a 9watt difference between the 9005 and 9006, I honestly can't see why the 9006's would not fit our fogs as they are listed in the same category. (The 9000 series)

Anyone tried the 9006's in our fogs??

x2 H13 Silverstar in my headlight and 9005 Silverstar Ultra in the fog light.I'm happy with the setup.

If you have the square fogs then you are fine using the 9005's. But if you have the oval fog lights you should use the 9145 because of heat issues.

A year is typical for any of these lamps. Silverstar have a design life, low beam, of only 350 hours. This is typical for any of the quality brands, GE, Sylvania, Philips, PIAA.

Thanks for helping me make up my mind on which bulbs to go with. Everyone has their own idea on what's the best and why. And that's great. Seems like I can throw all three makers in a hat, pick one and I can't go wrong. One thing I did learn, was to upgrade the fogs to the 9005. That was one thing everyone did agree on.
Why is that safer in a rectangular fog as compared to a round one?

Lamp size I would assume. The sqaure lights are bigger.

I am on the way to Advance right now to pick up the H13 and 9005 Silverstars for my truck.

At least everyone kind of agrees on something I think that its safer with the rectangular lights because they are bigger than the round ones.

PHS79, I tryed the 9006's in my fogs today and they fit and work perfectly. They produce 9 watts less then the 9005's. So it should help keep the heat down!!

Good to know! Someone has to be the genie pig and try things you, I guess for this it was you. That means that there is another option for those that what something more than the stock 9145's but are afraid that the 9005 will be too much, especially those people whos trucks are 06+ and have the round fogs.

The 9006's fit perfectly? Ford must have changed the bulb mounting alot from the 99-03 trucks. I had tried this in my previous 99 and it was a pain. The 9005 is a GM high beam bulb and the 9006 is a GM low beam bulb, thus the wattage difference. I too thought the lower wattage would be great in the fogs as they did not make the 9145ss at the time. I fould the connector to have a locating tab in the opposite side and the body of the light (where the o-ring sits) to be larger on the 9006. Also the tabs that hold in the housing were oppsite and wouldnt fit in the housing. They were made this way so the high and low beams couldn't be mistakin on where the bulbs were suppose to go. Since I already opened the package, I reshaped the body to fit, used the old foglight o-ring, and snapped the locating tab. It was a pain in the butt. Later when one burnt out i just replaced with 9005's, it was a lot easier.
I have not upgraded bulbs in my 05 yet, but if the 9006's fit i might look into that again.

The designation "9006" or "9005" does not indicate the bulb manufacturer of who designed, merely the bulb style.

Clearly the two bulbs are different:

9005: http://www.donsbulbs.com/cgi-bin/r/b.pl/9005.html

9006: http://www.donsbulbs.com/cgi-bin/r/b.pl/9006.html

If you look closely at the drawings you can see the mounting tabs are in different places on the two bulbs as machinehead says.

Ok then how is it that I have the bulbs in my truck RIGHT now and they were on when I drove to work this morning at 6am?
Honestly I looked at the pictures and they seem to be different, I really don't know how they fit but they did. I re checked them and they are sitting correctly in the fog housing....
