Got a CEL

Well, i'm no longer able to brag to my Chevy and Dodge buds how my truck has not had 1 problem since i've owned it ( while their trucks have given them troubles here & there ). Today I started and went to town, shutted down and went in a store, came back out, started, and my engine light is on. I had noticed that my cam phaser ticking has been getting louder. I'm betting its time for a new cam phaser setup... damn it.. and i'm out of warranty. Lifted the hood and let it idle, and wow the ticking is real loud. My one bud said it sounds more like a valve, but I dont know. I just turned 70,000 miles, and i'm not really too hard on my truck, but I do let it idle for 3 - 4 mins to warm up on first starts of the day. I'll have the dealer run me a diagnostic on the 26th.

Mine is at 92k and it ticks like crazy. I've had a guy walk by when i had the hood open while idling and he got all excited thinking i had done a diesel swap...yeah, it ticks that loud. No CEL for me though.

Put your cats back on.

Well my ticking has gotten louder over the past month, not too noticeably until I walked past it a few days ago and noticed it ticked louder, I heard it over my exhaust which i hardly had before. I dont wanna put the rear cats back in, I doubt thats the problem but eh idk, O2 sensors never last forever. I'll put Magnaflow hi-flows in before the quiet rear ones go back in.

Well I got it scanned, and code PO191 came up, "Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor CKT Range/Perf.

Thats what it states. Common problem? I thought mostly the 2005 had fuel problems, or maybe thats just injectors.

Well then sounds like your noisy cam phasers are fine, just like mine.

Yeah, hmm, it sounds like its gotten louder though, maybe its me, just not noticing it much. I never have time to just stand and listen to everything.

Well now I got this problem to fix, does anyone have any advice or how-to for this? I dont want to have the dealer do it but if it really comes down to it I guess i'll have to.

I only hear my cam phasers at warm idle, which isn't much. As for your popped code, I don't know, but someone will chime in that does I bet.

You need a new fuel rail pressure sensor.

You might be ok, but i think you need to get it check out... don't want you to get no failure on your trip.

Im at almost 105,000 and it's been ticking at warm idle for some time. Never any codes, good gas mileage, good performance ect.
It does go away with rpm. It's loudest at the bank drive thru when I can hear the sound off the walls. Going down the street it's quiet as I pass parked cars I listen and no ticking.

Never heard the fuel injectors excuse until I started looking at cam phaser post.
Next oil change im gonna ask the service guru what is up but almost always my issues are non-issue over reactions....so far.

Well I took it in for a Diagnostic, they also found the po191 code, they searched for the trouble spot, it was my fuel filter. They replaced it and cleaned the lines out, no more CEL.

That's a good thing! Not too expensive, I mean!

I just changed my fuel filter on my 2002 F150 4x4. It only has 50K on it, but I thought it was "time". I didn't have a CEL on, just did it and I noticed (right away) a huge difference in response during acceleration. Damn, I baby that thing too, but must have been plugged
