4x4 slow to engage and disengage
4x4 slow to engage and disengage
I've noticed this twice now, but always when I stop to shift in or out of 4x4. The dash says it went into, or out of 4x4, but there is a clunk after I start driving.
For example, yesterday I was driving in a heavy 12" snow storm in 4x2. I stopped in a deep snow pile made by the snow plow and got stuck. I figured I could just turn the switch to 4x4, wait a few seconds, rock it once, and drive out. It engaged OK, but then made a clunk when I drove out.
Am I doing this right, or do I have a slow engager?

Mine does it sometimes too, theres always a 2 second delay or so, and 4wdlo never engages unless i have the brake fully pressed down then it switches and i can put it in gear. If you dont use 4wd alot then it will clunk and delay a little longer than usual.
yes, i think its recomended that when putting it into 4hi, you should be moing slow so that the hubs can engage. i think that if your in 4lo, to get it out you have to completley stop to disengage it. mine clunks if i am at a dead stop too so i try to get moving first
usually I stop and put it in neutral and then put in 4wd and seems to not clunk. But yesterday in our snow storm I put it in 4wd and forgot to put it in neutral and when I accelerated it made a clunk everytime I hit the gas. I stopped put it in neutral and went out of 4wd then moved slightly to make sure it was out then stopped put it in neutral and then in 4wd and took off. No clunking again. But I always stop to put it in neutral before messing with 4wd.
