I have a 2007 FX4 SCREW with 14,200 miles on it and the brakes shake like they are shot already? started a little while ago. I inspected the rotors and they seem fine no groves or anything. I have not taken a look at the pads yet though. I have been researching on here some to see if it was common but didn't really see anything. I thought i read something about them warping though? Not sure but any help would be greatly appreciated. I was going to make an appointment for the dealer but thought i should see if there were any issues or what not first. Sorry if i'm bringing up an over talked topic. I just didn't really see what i was looking for. Thanks in advance

 

are u heavy on the brake pedal? brake at the last minute? that could cause warping.

 

I've had all sorts of issues with brakes up here in upstate ny. I'm over here in Vernon... where abouts in Syracuse are you?

 

When I first got my truck the rotors felt warped, but I thought it was just rust on the rotors. 200 miles later they still felt warped, the pads had life left so I didn't do anything. Now 5,000 miles later its gone, I still can't figure out what it was.

 

i just had the same problem and my rotors were severly warped. just did my brakes over the past weekend and i had the rotors rurned. now they are just over minimum specs. if u get to it early u may not have to cut the rotors as much

your warranty don't cover brakes. if i was you, i would get some better quality ones and hopefully you won't have more issues in the future. my 07 has tad over 16k on it and the breaks are as good as when i bought it, but i also don't like in the city nor does our town have any stoplights

 

Something to remember. If you ever have someone work on or do work yourself that the wheels are removed and replaced, torque the lug nuts to the proper specs. That is probably one of the main reasons rotors get warped. Uneven torque of the lug nuts. Since I started doing that in the 90's, I have yet to have to turn or replace rotors, except for totally wearing out to below specs. Have not had warped rotors. I don't even have them turned when I replace pads.

 

very good point, i always use a torque wrench when rotating, 150 ft lbs.

 

The rotors on these trucks suck. I think it has to do with the calipers not being adequate for the trucks. The audi a4 has bigger caliper pistons then our 6000# f150s (the brakes are a joke). I have an 04 and had my rotors replaced with the caliper update (04 only) and they still warped. I put a set of ebc rotors and akenbono pads on and have had no problems ( I dont wanna sepnd $5,000 on a big brake upgrade). I have warped rotors on my truck at least 3 times and this combo solved the problem. I would also check the hub for excessive runout and make sure you torque the wheels.

 

I think I mentioned this once before... I've taken my brakes apart before when I painted them when I first got the truck.

To be honest.. the only way to do a good brake upgrade is by going to a set of these:

thanks guys! i guess i will just deal for now and save for some new rotors and pads then. really sucks to spend that kind of money on a new truck just to have to put new brakes on this soon. what can you do though lol.

 

Common problem to have warped rotors on any car or truck.

Lots of causes.

One fix. - Replace both rotors, install new pads with new shims, grease slid pins or install new ones and enjoy!

It's true, brakes on Ford trucks suck. If you have drums in the rear they super suck. It's cheaper to plan your stops then to install a big brake kit.
