exhaust question

I have been looking a cat-backs and they all seem very pricey.
Would it not be easy just to remove the muffler back, put on muffler of your choice, then using old pipe and some new pipe reinstall tail pipe?

seems much cheaper and not that dificult.

Buy the muffler you want and the tips online, then get them welded up at any reputable exhaust shop. You could probably get the labor done for $200 +/-.

I got a guy that can weld it for me and I can do the rest of the labor. What mufflers work and sound best? It is 2.5 in and out right.

This is something like what I have. I was going to just replace the muffler with an aftermarket and then put on a tip. But the exhaust shop recommended that I go to a 3" SI/SO muffler IMCO Pro (now Cherry Bomb Pro) vs the 2.5" SI/SO. So I ended up with 3" from the factory Y pipe into the muffler then 3" out over the rear axle and exiting in the stock location. I had right around $180 into it. I then found a tip that I liked, 3" inlet X 4" outlet X 15" long, and had a buddy weld it on. I would have done it, but his welding looks alot better than mine.

For what you are looking at getting I would guess you would pay around 100-125 installed.

Mine is now 3" from the Y all the way back. I was going to just stick with the stock 2.5" pipe and a different muffler, but the shop talked me into the 3". I have been thinking of redoing my exhaust by taking everything off from the Y back and running either 2.5" or 2.25" and no muffler, again in the stock location.

Where did you come up with this? I pieced together a Stainless single 3" system, muffler and all for less than $200 installed. Catbacks Start at about $400. I love the way mine sounds and can almost promise that it flows better than any aftermarket catback. I don't have mandrel bends, but then again, bends aren't even necessary in this system. I would have to imagine that a straight pipe flows better than Any kind of bend. Just my .02

5' of 3" stainless= about $50
straight through dynomax bullet= $40
install and bending of turndown= $70

$160 including shipping on parts.
