Edge or Battery Problem??
i got bad news.....my edge fried my pcm in my truck...engine failsafe mode came on a few weeks ago and I finally got it into the ford dealership yesterday....they also said that since I modded the computer that my warranty was void....I am thinking of taking the chip off and driving it to another ford dealership and having the warranty take care of it....any advice?

My edge evo has never caused any problems to my truck.
I highly doubt that it "fried" your PCM because it functions the same as the factory programmer does. Simply writes a script that manages various drive train parameters.
BTW. Going to another dealer for warranty work probably wont yield you any success. The service department that you just visited probably has already entered your information into OASIS which will allow any service department access to your vehicles complete history, including all service messages, and service work done at any dealer nationwide.

if a situation like this occurs, do you just unplug & remove the tuner, then take it in?
I don't have a warranty left anyways though so I guess it doesn't matter, unless the pcm is lifetime

As much as I don't condone the "relatively" deceitful practice of trying to hide the fact some had a programmer installed on their vehicle, the fact of the matter is that Ford dealers can be pretty hard-headed about modifications and it doesn't leave a lot of options for vehicle owners.
With that said, it is always recommended that you return your vehicle back to stock before going to the dealer for ANY service. This includes oil changes, tire balance, headlight check, or whatever. Invariably, there will be a tech who is going to see if he can pick up an hour of labor by doing a reflash on the ECM with no warning to the customer. I've even had customers tell me that after finding out their ECM had been reflashed (rendering their programmer temporarily useless) that the service techs have even denied that they reflashed the ECM. I don't understand that practice, but it's happened.
Anyway, in regards to an ECM being "fried"... That is a HIGHLY unlikely situation and is usually what the service manager will tell you in order to try to sell you a $700.00+ ECM (out of warranty, no less). They have no concept of what programmers do or what to do if there is a minor issue; All they do is go by what the scan tools tell them and all the scan tools says is "Replace the ECM". I can probably count on one hand the number of ECMs that were actually damaged and completely unrecoverable.
If you need help in recovering an ECM, I am always glad to be of assistance. If it is an issue caused by one of our programmers, there is no charge for recovery and in most cases it can be recovered by phone/internet. If there is a problem caused by a device from another manufacturer, I am still usually able to recover the ECM but there would be a nominal charge for recovery. If it is unrecoverable then there is no charge. In any event, it's still better than $700.00+.
Hope this helps.
