Edge or Battery Problem??

I am having a problem with my Edge display not coming on after the truck sits for 5-6 hours. I can unplug/plug it right back in and everything works fine. Could my battery be going? Truck is an 04, with stock battery. Any thoughts? thanks

Definitely battery. Change it out before you are stranded, as I was.

X2! Get a Optima or something other than stock/OEM

If interested, here is the thread I did after my battery got me.

Some guys have a warning from flashing gauges or if they have an Edge, it won't come on. Mine must have shorted out, no warning.

what happens if your battery dies while your edge or in my case gryphon is plugged in?

my battery doesn't show signs of dying yet although I have seen the volts drop to the 11's on start up (is that bad?)

I just want to be prepared in case it happens

I would go no longer, Batteries are not too expensive and if it leaves you stranded, the expense can be high. Just change the battery and you will be good to go.

The answer to your question, nothing happens to the Edge. That is just the monitor, it is just reading what is taking place with your truck. The tune is already stored in the PCM. The only problem might be if you are in the middle of a program download and the battery goes dead. I don't know, but I assume the PCM reverts to what you had in it before you started that download.

Hello my bad bad battery. Thanks to this thread I remembered to check voltage on my battery. I don't load test much anymore because I believe it causes more harm than good and remembering what happened to bluejay and others, these batteries die rather quickly. I haven't had any problems yet, but when I checked the voltage it read 11.58v to my surprise, so I'm driving on borrowed time. 04, 4 and a half years old stock, no edge. So, I'm buying a new battery before it leaves me walking and I know my luck, It will be 30 below, blizzard conditions and I need to go to store to pick up a six pac

Definitely your battery save yourself the trouble and buy a new one now. Mine went out a few weeks ago after a couple of cool mornings. My edge flashed and didn't turn on but the truck started didn't really pay attention to it that was my mistake. Ended up being the last time it started with that battery, had to get a jump in a restaurant parking lot. Drove straight to Autozone and bought a Optima Red top.

It was nice you had the warning. The batteries on the trucks don't start dragging, letting you know they are weak, they just quit. I assume it's due to the big load or high demand on the battery.

Yes, it does, sometimes. Nothing warned me though. Some have had instruments acting up. I had no warning at all.

My battery is a 65 and was about $79 at Sam's Club. I put one on my Expedition, too.

i got bad news.....my edge fried my pcm in my truck...engine failsafe mode came on a few weeks ago and I finally got it into the ford dealership yesterday....they also said that since I modded the computer that my warranty was void....I am thinking of taking the chip off and driving it to another ford dealership and having the warranty take care of it....any advice?
