Sudden shut off

My truck has shut off twice now in the last two months and I'm looking for some ideas on what to check. It happened both times while coasting to a stop. It started right back up and I was on my way. The truck appears to be running fine. Any ideas? '05 FX4 SuperCrew w/5.4 no mods or tuner.

Thanks,
Jeff

Injector? Total stab in the dark there but, it's a VERY prevalent 2005 problem.

Do you or have you ever felt what appeared to be a 'miss'?

Also just shots in the dark:

Fuel Filter
Throttle Position Sensors
Fuel Pump Control Module (this is what I had to replace when mine was having similar issues, pretty expensive, hopefully it's not this)

I have the same problem both times I was turning full lock and it died and once going up a driveway. Today it did it 4 times and on the last time it did it I noticed that the engine seemed a little rough looked at the tach and it dropped below the normal idle rpm and it didnt go up and died, at one point it dropped and went back to normal idling rpm.

I'd have to guess it's the fuel filter

Could it be the IAC?

That would probably be the culprit but the 04-08 5.4L's don't have an IAC. When mine started acting up that's one of the things I was looking for.

BluescrewFX4,

My truck did the same thing about 7months ago. When I would coast to a stop, the engine would just shut off. A month after this all started, the truck would suddenly go into "failsafe mode"-it would run really rough. It's basically the computer detecting a problem and shutting off a few cylinders so you can break your motor. If you search "failsafe mode" in these forums a lot of guys went and had their throttle bodies replaced and the problem went away. I did that and haven't had the issue since. Hope this helps.

please please let me know if you or anyone else figures this problem out. My 04 is doing the exact same thing (rough idle, suddenly dies at slow speeds, check engine light on) and pulling the exact same codes! its also pulling o2 sensor codes but i've heard that code can be a multitude of things. I've replaced the fuel filter, mass airflow sensor, and air intake gaskets. nothing has worked and i'm pouring tons of money into it.

Took truck to dealer because the last time it happened the check engine light came on and stayed on. They replaced the Throttle body and Throttle Positioning Sensor. Truck appears to be fine now. Any known issues with these parts?

Thanks,
Jeff

Happened to me once. Slowing down to turn a corner. Truck started right back up. No problems since. Weird.

I know it's not a F150.... but when I had my Escape, it would randomly turn off in the middle of intersections, down in NYC, and other very bad places. Never was able to figure it out...

I think it might have something to do with the COPs, IAC or just flat out with the ECU. It's really hard to determine, especially if there are no SES lights.
