4 Wheel Parts...Crappy Store/Site?

Somehow I got onto their mailing list and periodically get that stupid newsletter they mail 2-3 times a month. And everytime I check their prices, they are usually more expensive by several hundred bucks than the competition. anyways,

I tried to order an Autometer Gauge Pod for 2004-2005 F-150. Part #15312 (we all know it'll fit a 04-08 though).

Their site says:

Price: $27.89
Tax: $2.01
Shipping: $1.95
In-Store pick-up: $16.73

Total of: $31.85 or $46.63 depending on shipped or pickup

$31.85 is a great price, since everybody else wants $10-20 for shipping alone, and then the price of the pod itself is typically $35.

Anyways, I tried placing the order. When I called about the order, I got some overly sensitive little snippy queer-bait to provide me with their version of excellent customer service. They won't honor their shipping price of $1.95. Tried being smart with me and said that the Pod cannot be shipped via UPS Ground since there is no ground between California and Hawaii.

Somebody must have paid attention during Middle School Geography...so, since I have a lack of dirt matter to connect me to y'all, I must pay the Air Frieght, or Water rate.

When I asked then why does the site say $1.95 instead of reflecting the proper rate, the forementioned Salami Hog informed me that it was a site glitch. The human side at 4whlprts would catch the error and correctly charge me.

I told him to not bother since I can get it for under $40 shipped via eBay and I wasn't going to pay them $17 to ship something that could easily be shipped for $4.

My question though is, if their site advertises this rate...and there is absolutely nothing saying the shipping price is only good in lower 48 states...then shouldn't they have to honor that price?

I am sick and tired of being price gouged by every single company because I live on an Island. The USPS doesn't charge extra to ship out here. Fed Ex only charges a $1-2 more per package. But if you mention Hawaii or Alaska, companies just slobber at the bit anticipating the increased charges they can rape me with.

sorry, Rant over

I personally hate 4wheelparts. Never heard anything good about them, and they definately have terrible internet customer support, prices suck. How they stay in business i dont know cause there are a million better places out there. I dont even check 4wp when im looking for something.

There are a ton of horror stories about them here. Everyone hates them because of things like you just described.

I've seen the other threads about the company. the one that stands out the most in my mind was when their site had the set of 4 wheels for the price of just 1, I think it was...about Christmas time?

anyways, you always think that people are just imagining or fluffing up the stories about places...guess I should have just believed.

so chalk me up as another "almost" dis-satisfied customer

I've never had issues either. My local store has a bunch of good guys that work there, they do nice work. I've bought lots of stuff there including my tires (price matched with sportstrailerz ) and get free rotations every 3k. Works fine for me.
