Got rear-ended...totalled?

Hey everyone, I got into my second wreck with my truck. This time it was not my fault. I was rear ended at a redlight. The guy wasnt paying attention and didnt see me stopped. This was at 6:30 in the morning on monday. Anyways, he hit me going approximately 40-45mph. (this is the speed limit on the road so thats what he is saying). Anyways, i saw it about to happen to late. The damage didnt look that bad considering how his car looked. However, upon further looks, the bed of the truck made contact with the cab. This makes me believe that the frame flexed or bent some. I am afraid the truck might be totalled now. What do you guys think? Think the frame got a lot of damage?

I would let insurance make the call. It looks like it might be bent a little but hard to tell. Glad you okay though. You are okay, correct?

well, I am in a lot of pain. Got a case of the whiplash. However, its just a back strain. I got some pain meds/ muscle relaxers.

Anyways, found out that the guys insurance is not aurthorizing the body shop to take of the bed of the truck in order to look at the frame. They said they will only allow a visual inspection at the moment. So I think the adjustor said that so far, the damage is at least like 9-10K, and could be more once they get the bed off the truck.

You probably would have came out better if you'd not had the 3 ball hitch on there. This is a frame bender for sure.

How does the trailer ball bend the frame? Is it because the receiver is attached to the frame? i think at that speed it would have some the same amount of damage.

it just creates extra leverage on the frame.

If you get hit from behind the hitch acts as a pry bar on your truck frame. It has caused many trucks to be totaled from the frame damage. The hitch is much stronger than the frame.

ouch, sorry man. it's a shame to see a truck go like that.

I agree that the truck is likely totalled...considering the rear of the frame for at least 2 feet is fubar'd...and I'd bet money the frame buckled somewhere near the cab (causing the contact)

You should have fallen out of the truck screaming, "MY SPINE! AHHHHHHHH GOD IT HURTS SO MUCH!"
