Trans Temp Guage Question

Is there any way I can use the trans temp as read by the PCM to be output to a Guage?

I know the Edge can show you the Trans Temp as one of its displays. Now I'm want to use this for a guage.

Anybody? and any guage suggestions? I'm after a 2 1/16" (52mm) guage...most likely Autometer.

edit: reason I ask is because I am not wanting to drill/tap a hole in my trans pan

My Mag-hytech trans pan came with a pre-drilled and pre-tapped hole just for the occasion. Just another suggestion, also helps keep things cooler, and easier to service.

As for wiring it up, so a seperate gauge is showing you the temp ?? Not sure on this one, because I do not know how those digital/electronic gauges work. I highly doubt they make one to run off the PCM similar to the edge type units. I assume they all will work off a temp sensor (probe), then read out either digital or that normal gauge look (brain fart ??)

You need something that will plug into the OBDII to read the trans temp the way you are refferring. Something like a Scangauge II or an Aeroforce ScanGauge.

I've seen Manual's thing...and I am not putting that into my truck.

I do like your Mag-hytech trans pan idea though. I want to ensure my trans can last and that pan would kill 2 birds with 1 stone. Gauge and less heat.

I've also though about getting the SCT Livewire. it has alot of the same functions as the Edge doesn't it?

Manual's thing ???

Love the Mag Hytech. I thought the same thing as you, wanted the trans to last. Heard they aren't know for longevity, so I figured it would help. Was going to go with a gauge too, but then went with a Gryphon from PHP (also has gauge read-outs).

and yes, the livewire has similar functions as the edge, plus a lot more !

you know, Manual...the F-150 V-6 that apparently couldn't...he has a scanguage, or is it a Dashhawk...something that is completely useless and lets him know that he never overworks his engine

I'm not worried about the tranny in stock form. it's the after part.

this is my motor right now minus the plastic intake

and this is what will be on top of it by tomorrow morning

it's gonna cost me $500 for tuning and a SCT x-cal II in the spring...I almost think I'll just pay the extra $200 and get the Livewire instead

Since the PCM deals with PID data it cannot be readily displayed by a gauge unless it is something like a Scangauge II that can read the data from the PCM. There is a test port on the tranny that is plugged in normal use that can be used to install a temp probe to output to an aftermarket gauge such as an Autometer or other aftermarket trans temp gauge.

I try and stay away from useless posts, so i might of missed that one. If its a scangaguge and working correctly, its about as accurate as you can get. Its running off the OBDII port. He just maybe BS'n people ?? I dunno

The livewire would be the route I would go if I was you, personally. I had no idea you were going to a S/C motor (jealous.... i hate you !). Since thats the case, yes I would pay the extra amount of money for the livewire. It will let you monitor more then just the trans temp, plus has plenty of other "fun" options in it that you can take advantage of (o-60 times, 1/4 mile times etc etc etc)

appreciate those links.

especially about the Diagnostic port that is already there on the tranny and drilling isn't required. That is very good info to know.
