finally got the install done! used the wire going to the radio (#2) kind of a light green color.....and the gauge comes on when the ignition is on only. will stay on like the radio untill you have key out and open the door. i took out for about a 10 mile ride and only got to about 140-145* stayed under 150 the whole time. wil be interesting to see how hot when i tow.....hopefully pics show up.....if not they are in my truck folder. thanks for everyone's help! see ya.....

That's sweet! I've often wondered what to use that space for.

I really dig those. I'm thinking of putting in a few more gauges too. I'll keep that in mind.

What color does it light up to? Is it a clear light or green like the rest of the dash?

did you just cut a hole in the dash to run your cables?

Now that ROCKS!!!

Thanks for sharing that. Looks like I need to spend more money. How did you wire up the Trans Temp part, did you have to get a separate sending unit? Thanks!

Jim, I have 7 green boots. I too am an Autometer fan... Email me at fastervw@msn.com or send me a PM with your address, and I'll mail it to you

The gauge pod looks good. I'm afraid to leave anything in that tray as I'm afraid someone would use it as an excuse to get in my truck. I've been thinking about mount some gauges underneath the pop-out cup holders in the dash. Figure I could mount them in some chrome Autometer cups.

Later...

John

it takes a 2 1/16" gauge (actually 2). i have a blank in the other just so a hole won't show. i took out my stereo surround (control **** area) and found only 2 screws holding in the tray in the front, and 4 for the stereo. drilled small hole into the tray and rubber part on top of the tray. ran a wire to a sending unit (attached drivers side testing port area of tranny). found the original autometer sending unit to long, order part # 2259 to get a smaller sending unit. ran another wire to a tranny bolt for the ground. the hot wire is using the large plug in the stereo wire #2 (shows that number on the female side of the connector), this powers the unit only when key is on or till you open the door when key is off, or same scenerio for the 10 minute window we get to keep on the radio when key is turned off. light is wired using the light blue/red wire and black ground coming off the cig lighter.....these wires along with a 3rd go to the instruments and controls for lighting....that way you can dim the light with the others.....looks factory to me! plus it doesn't cut down on my vision like the a piller pods seemed to do when i tried that. hope this helps......there are a few threads about this already if you search. jim
