Transporting gas can
Transporting gas can
I am so sick of trying to fill up my 5 gallon gas can... Every time I put it in the bed of my truck, bungey corded to the clamp on the side or the cargo bar, it gets loose and flips over. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to transport smaller items like gas cans in your truck bed, securely.

I agree that a ratchet strap would probably be the fastest/cheapest fix
i built a box mainly to keep my fourwheeler from hitting my back window but it fits two 5 gallon tanks very nicely without tipping but the one time i didnt use it it fell over and sprayed gas all over the bed of my truck and my back window smelled like gas in ma truck for like a week

OK, I'm watching this thread because I've had this happen to me too. I think I'm going to skip the factory hold downs and install brackets that's easier to use hold down straps. Pain in the rear to clean, not to mention $4.05 a gallon.
Stick a 2x4 in the groves near the rear of the bed (there is a specific location about 18 inches from the rear of the bed). When you put your gas can in there and shut the tailgate it should keep it in place. I use a cargo bar but a 2x4, 6 or 8 will do as well.
All the more reason for a DualLiner Man.
The Dent Protection of a Drop in liner, Good looks like a Spray in, Zero Skid mat for the floor.
I haul my gas can with nothing holding it in place.

Thanks for the replies... I do have the factory Ford drop in liner, which I agree causes a lot of sliding around... Any one just throw a liner mat over top of the drop in..?
By the way Pimprohr nice truck and nice liner. What is it?
