Wow, lots of misconception about the FX4...

After all it is really just an 'option package'. I don't know how it is over rated, it just combines the features most of us want in a F150. I wanted a DSG, supercab, 5.4L, 4x4, 3.73LS and tow package. I was looking for a truck 1-2 years old and the easiest way to find all those options is in the FX4.

3.73 LS is standard, you can opt for the non-ls (not sure why...), unless you get the OEM 20's then it defaults to 3.55ls with 3.73LS as an option. My truck came with OEM 20's and thus the optional 3.73LS. The skid plates are not great but they certainly don't hurt anything and the 'tuned' shocks I think are really just marketing BS (flame suit ready).

Is the FX4 overrated? Only if you take that perspective. It is nothing special other than it has all the options I found desirable. YMMV.

Cost just about the same as say a xlt, thats why im going to pick up a fx4 has lil more options.....

 

Not quite, the 01-03's were an option package available on xlt's and lariats. The 04-up it is a trim level positioned between the xlt and lariat.


The FX4 badge on the tailgate is from an Expy with the optional FX4 package only available from 03-06. I've only seen one FX4 expy in the 5 years that they have existed. You can get the badge from any dealer or online parts vendors, try www.tascafordparts.com they seem to be the cheapest. Copy and paste this part # into the part search window and make your purchase.
