Same drivetrain. Maybe your refferring to the spark plug probelm ? That is ALL 5.4 L not just the FX4.
Perhaps just a MYTH associated with the FX4 name? I dunno?

they are just a short consler without the shifter part, i've seen them. i was referring to how i was wrong saying it depends on what you call a console, my xlt has the 40/20/40 i would consider the middle part that opens and holds 2 beverages a console, but others may not.

Oh and another thing, the ride is much different in a base f150 and FX4... The FX4 ride is much more rigid and you really notice it with imperfections in the road.

Not all FX4s have/had limited slip axles standard. Kinda strange, you'd figure an offroad oriented truck would have that kinda stuff standard, but a limited slip rear is still an option on FX4s.

The standard gears are determined by what wheels you have, unless you special order a diff gear. 20's get 3.55 and 18's get 3.73 and 17's got 3.73.
I believe the previous post was meaning to say that, in a regular cab fx4, you can only get a column shift. He was not meaning to say that the only way you can get a column shift in an fx4 was with a regular cab. I have seen a scab with a column shift.

The only other difference I belive that has not been mentioned is that you can not get with FX4 without a 5.4.

The way you wrote it, I thought you meant that only reg cabs get a column shift and scabs and screws got the floor shift. No big deal.

I don't know what they did in 04, but on my 05 the LS was listed as standard on the FX4 in the brochure and on the window sticker, same thing on my 07.

I have a 06 FX4. I don't know where you guys are getting this $2k mark-up for the package. My truck was more expensive than an XLT because it is Lariat optioned. The price difference before all the goodies (leather, moonroof, rear window, radio, heated seats, powered driver/passenger seat, powered pedals, powered/heated mirrors, dimming rear mirror, integrated radio steering wheel controls) was easily within $500-700 of a similarly equipped XLT....aka, power windows/locks and cloth seats...nothing else

The following package upgrades (FX4 standard equipment) were fairly cheap to have if you just want a truck with the offroad package.

However, if you wanted a really nice truck with the offroad package, you will pay more to buy each Option outside of the FX4 package

1. 5.4 3v (FFV or Non-FFV)
2. PTM Bumpers
3. Skid Plate (althought they are weak as hell)
4. Flow Through Console
5. 18" rims with 3.73 LS axle
6. unpainted fender flare
7. cool instrument cluster
8. LT rated Wrangler tires 275-65-18

2006 F-150
1. introduction of FFV 5.4 3v
2. 05RedFX4 got 99% of the other stuff and his list is way better than mine could ever aspire to be

true. shocks are different. believe it or not Mercedestech...they are

take a hard corner in a FX4. get out and repeat in any model 4x4 (XL/STX/XLT/Lariat/King Ranch)

you can and will feel the difference. the FX4 rides more like a truck. it doesn't wallow as much as the regular 4x4 F-150 does. less body roll due to the shocks.

since when? I wasn't aware that the 20" rims got 3.55 gears until recently, but the FX4 has always had a LS axle as part of the FX4 package...unless your talking about the 03/04 trucks

Now that you mention it, when I got my 05, comparable xlt scabs were about 35K and the FX4 was 35,930. So roughly 1K more for an FX4.

If you go to build and price and choose 20's on an FX4 you get 3.55's, you can special order 3.73's maybe even 4.10's, but the standard gear with 20's is 3.55

not bad IMO for a beefier looking truck with better tires and better interior

but the standard gear with 20's is 3.55
yeah, I saw that about 1 month ago when a guy on another forum pointed it out. stupid, but I'm sure Ford has some weird reason
bolded stuff

I may be mistaken. I thought limited slip axles were optional on all trim levels.
