Where do you guys buy your gears? I have 3.55 and will be upgrading wheels and tires soon and I am thinking of going to 3.73's when I make this change. So is there any place online to get them?

I dont know if you interested, but I will be replaceing my 3.73 gears in my truck, with some 4.56 gears. We could work something out if you wanted, there is nothing wrong with them I am just going to bigger tires, so I needed bigger gears.

 

Actually, yes I would like to do that. Not sure if they will be compatible or not but if they are then yes. Do your 3.73's have limited slip?

 

I dont want to get in the middle of a potential sale, but installing used gears is a terrible idea. Also your going to pay alot for labor and the small difference from 3.55 to 3.73 will not even be worth it. Go for the 4.10's if your going to do it.

 

I got mine from randys ring and pinion. They have great customer service, they stand behind what they sell, and did a follow up about a week or so after i recieved them to see if they where installed and running good. I highly recommend them!!

Yes, they do have limited slip, and my rear is a 9.75, and my front is the 8.8. So if that works pm me and we will discuss the details further.

 

His front axle is a reverse cut 8.8 and his rear is an 8.8

Sorry Blue but the the gears won't be compatible for the rear. The fronts might work, but you will need new rears. I would just go ahead and get both brand new.

 

Im 2WD anyway so no biggie. Labor isn't an issue as I do all my own work. Nobody touches my truck.

 

So I need the 8.8 gears for the rear? When you buy the "gears" do they come with everything you need? I want the LS as well. I think the 3.73 will work well. I am not doing to much by going to 33" tires so the 3.73 should keep me close to stock performance which is what I want to maintain.

 

No you only get the pinion and the ring in a gear order. You will have to either buy a rebuild kit or buy individual parts you need and try to reuse others. And make sure that when you go to fill your rear end up with fluid to put the friction modifier in there if you are going to put in the limited slip.

 

I can see I have alot to learn before I tackle this project. Good thing its going to be Christmas before I make the change. Thanks for all the replies guys. I will likely be able to use some of my current stuff since I have an 08 with only 2500 miles on it. Hopefully the rear end is still in good shape.

 

if your going to install the gears I HIGHLY reccomend having experience or a friend along with experience. It is not a simply issue of bolting everything together.

For all I know your a master heavyline tech that can do this with your eyes closed. I just know many people dont know all thats involved in a proper gear install so I thought I would give you a heads up.
