2 rear cats
Did the tone of the exhaust change or just the volume? Did you have any drone before cutting off the cats? How about now with them off?
I actually don't think it matters ... I think it'd still be a fine since you're altering how it came from the factory. I understand it's really not changing any emissions but I'd think they'd still fine you for it.
I'm probably gonna try this anyways. When inspection time comes, clamp in the originals.
I had a little drone, and I may have gotten a little more without the cats. I am not sure tho because it is barely noticable at all. The sound got more of a rumble, a little deeper, and a little louder. I am really happy with it for an hours worth of work and 23 bucks
I'm debating on doing this. Can anyone post videos of their exhaust with the rear cats chopped? Does anyone who has done this have any negative feedback on doing this? I'm planning to replace my cats with Magnaflow 9" body cats ( 94106 ) but I would rather save $110 and try this $20 project, but my shop stated this could f up the computer over a long period of time?

I've got the ROUSH offroad side exit exhaust, and although it sounds pretty damn good considering the 4 cats on my 04 supercrew, the tone still sounds like it's being somewhat restricted. I live out in Southern Cali too, so I am caught between cutting and not cutting off my rear cats. I know troyer performance sells a complete header and y pipe complete with high flow cats, but I just don't it's worth the price. If I could get away with passing the emissions testing here in Cali I would definitely do it.
it's not worth it IMO for the following reasons
1. $10k fine is scary
2. no real increase in noise (that a good muffler can't duplicate)
3. dumping the exhaust cause the bottom of vehicle to carbon up
4. it's illegal to dump exhuast under the cab. must physically run so exhaust dumps under bed
5. no gain in performance, but most likely to lose HP/TQ

True on the fine part, but I never stated anything about dumping anything. My truck has a custom Magnaflow true dual with the 11" mufflers. I love its sound but its just not loud enough for me. I have exactly 1" infront of the rear cat and 1.5"s behind it to fit a band clamp and add 12" pieces of 2.5" exhaust piping to fit it. I've thought it all out but I would prefer to remain legal and not harm my truck in any way. If the fine part is my only worry, I may be risky enough to try it till I feel uncomfortable about it.

to ensure occupant safety from exhaust gasses, the exhaust pipe of a truck must go past the furthest point the cab extends...aka, must dump under the bed
