Before I had my e-fan, I had to as much as I could on top, then get on the floor, reach up, and finish routing. The e-fan makes it much easier.

A 1/2" socket driver plugs straight into the tensioner, and allows you to loosen the belt. After that, you just start un threading everything. When you loosen tension, the easiest pulley to undo is the alternator, then you can let go of the tensioner.

It's all a tight fir, but you can do it without removing the fan and shroud.

It's defiantly easier to work from both the top and bottom.

I'd suggest sitting there before you start for a few minutes and just making a metal note of everything you see having to do with the fan. Keep that metal image and have a buddy loosen (easy to do by yourself too) the tensioner with a 1/2 breaker bar. Then just un-route it, and re-route it.

After you finish the first time you'll realize how easy it really is. Takes about the same time and labor as an oil change.

Yes, it is always easier when you have a plan of attack before you do any work you're not accustomed to doing.

If you think changing the serpentine belt on your longitudinal engine is hard... try a latitudinally placed engine... that is a NIGHTMARE!

I can change a serpentine belt with NO tools if it's got an auto pretensioner... just takes a little bit of muscle... and faster than you can go and get that socket and breaker bar.

Oh, and just be careful of your fingers if you do it... as it hurts if you get your fingers stuck on a tense belt.

when you put it back together, put the tensioner about half way and hold it there (just starting to put tension on the belt), and spin a pully/belt and make sure the belt is seated correctly on all the accessory pullies

also might help to take off the intake tube on 04+ trucks

I'm just glad this belt has nothing to do with the timing nor does it require more than one tensioner nor does it require a special tool or moving the engine up and down off the mounts. My DSM was one of the hardest to do. This sounds fairly easy.

I had to print this thread and send it to one of my old techs, LOLs. He would cut the original belt off, lace the new one on, have somebody start the engine and slip the belt on the power steering pulley with a screw driver. He's the only person I know good/dumb enough to make it work and not get a broken arm out of it. I don't recommend you try it!
