gas hogg

The best fuel mileage that I have gotten so far is 10. 63 miles per gallon. I have yet to have my truck on the highway so this is all driving in town. And I hate that in town between 30 and 40 miles an hour my truck keeps going in and out of over drive. I think that has something to do with the 4:10 gears in the new 2008's. Other than the poor fuel mileage I love my new truck. I've had it all over norris lake here in Tennessee.

That sounds about right for in town driving. Takes a lot of juice to get something that heavy moving from stop to stop. My edge reading of instant mpg (which of course isn't perfect) can read 3-5 mpg from a dead stop and that isn't with my foot in it. Once it's up to speed then it'll jump up to 10 - 13.

I didn't even know you could get 4.10's? Wish they would have had that option when I bought mine..

Just turn off overdrive. That's what I do whenever I am under 55 mph. Doesn't go into o/d then in town and when you want to accel - it's already in 2nd or 3rd gear so when you step on it, it goes instead of having to come out of o/d first. It makes it much more 'driveable' in town.

If it's brand new you might still be "breaking it in", if you will. I would expect your 4.10s to get better city mileage than my 3.73s and I get ~12.5-13.5 MPG all city driving. I've also got 20" wheels and 34.7" tires, so my MPG dropped ~1.5 from stock.

You can only get them in the Heavy Duty Payload Package.

What does the actual consumption math say you are getting? (Miles driven divided by gallons to fill it up)

You sir need a stick shift with 4.10s.

I know what you must go through... automatics inherently choose the wrong gear when driving "normally".

maybe you can get ford to hook up a 5 spd to our 5.4's...
I wanted a manual, but wanted a v8 4x4 more. I really hate driving auto boxes though, I stare at the tach sitting at 2k rpm waiting for it shift.

Yeah... even though they supposibly are getting better... I still don't like them.

I like being able to mash the pedel and the rpms go up according to the speed. Not mash the pedal and watch the needle get pegged.

Compared to my 2500HD Silverado that weighs 7500lbs, and has a gas 6.0L getting 12.5mpg, my F150 get great mpg. Have not done the mathmatical MPG check yet but I only need gas every couple weeks, compared to the Chevys once to twice a week.

The only way to get a stick with a 5.4 is in a Super Duty.

Yeah I dont like the auto-box much. Hunting gears in town. Watching the needle sit at 2000 rpm sucks. Making Noise and not going anywere

I am use to manual gearbox's. Thats all I have ever driven till I moved to North America. The 5.4 has enough Torque to pull this puppy up hills and chugg away in town without the ups and downs.

Hope Ford offer a Diesel manual for the 2009 model. Makes sense!

A dealer tried to spec a 5.4, Manual SCAB SWB SD In Canada and only 3 showed nation wide!!!

Thats Good Advice Gonna give that a try.

once the o/d locks up it accelerates fine. Getting to 75-80 km/h is where it struggles because it sits at 2k rpm for so long. I stare at the gauge and feather the gas on and off so it'll shift but that doesn't help much. it's strange that the tranny feels so disconnected from the motor because it has plenty of torque even around 1k rpm.
I knew manual 250's were rare, but 3 scab's in Canada? hopefully there is 1 powerstroke manual scab in Toronto when I'm looking to upgrade...

I used to be a chevy guy. Mostly because of their muscle cars, but when I was in the market for a v6 pickup, I couldn't find an s10 with a stick, so I bought a ranger instead because there were plenty to pick from.
why is it different with the f-150? I guess market research said it wasn't worth building a v8 manual.
