Just turn off overdrive. That's what I do whenever I am under 55 mph. Doesn't go into o/d then in town and when you want to accel - it's already in 2nd or 3rd gear so when you step on it, it goes instead of having to come out of o/d first. It makes it much more 'driveable' in town.

The Mazda 5 speed they use on the V6 is not strong enough to last behind a current V8 and I don't think the ZF is easy to fit in the F-150 chassis/body. Both the V6 and the manuals are gone for 09, the 4.6 2V and 4 speed auto are standard in the base truck.
