You can get the 5.4 w/3.73LS 4x4 starting at the XLT trim level , if you're not worried about all the fancy interior goodies.

if you want a nice truck with some of the "goodies" but not overly expensive, I'd look for

2006+
SuperCrew (4 full doors)
5.4 (don't waste your time with a 4.6...it doesn't save but 1-2 mpg over the 5.4...at best)
XLT Trim
Flow Through Console (shifter on floor, not column)

^ should run you about $20-25k for a lower mileage truck

the cloth seats ain't bad, but the leather is SO much better in terms of looks and comfort. also, the climate control is wonderful. it works, and all you have to do is set the temp and forget.

oh yeah, the higher the model trim you get, the better soud silencing it gets. there is a XL Supercrew offered that's pretty cheap (relatively)...but it's only for the 07+ years

I have an early production 01 Escape (Oct 00) that has had 7 recalls. Of the seven recalls, six resulted in nothing needed and one was for a reflash. Most recalls is to catch a few problem vehicles but poor records make them have to recall a large number to find the problem ones.

I just got a recall letter on Saturday from Ford to correct a possible leaking problem with the crusie control.

I would go with the 5.4, I have a 4.6 and it can be a real dog sometimes. I have drove a few 5.4's and they way stronger in my opinion.

Web hottie, Denise Milani. Although I think my girl is pretty hot herself.

I have only seen a SuperCab Flaresides myself. Can't find anything doing a GIS.

what year was did the 5.4 become 3 valve and what are the major advantages?

Also how does sound deadening change with trim level? Is it year dependent?
