Hid the Radar Detector Cord

The cord was getting on my nerves. I can't stand seeing cords, it just took me awhile to get around to hiding it. Streched the cord as far as I could, ran it under the headliner and got it all the way under the dash. I then basically made another cigeratte lighter outlet underneath the dash for it. I ran the power to one of aux. switches so all I do to turn it on is flip my far right switch.

You can see the cord in the middle of the windshield,

Hidden,

Clean looking, good job. Wires drive me crazy too. You should see the back and floor of my computer, it would make you sick.

They're made by a marine company called Sea Choice. They ran about $10 a piece. I'm thinking of maybe switching the lights from red to green if I can figure out how.

I always thought it would be cool to change out the LED behind the power window/ power lock buttons. Couldnt ever figure out how though.

Nice work, but just out of curiousity, instead of running the wiring under the headliner, down the pillar, under the dash, and use another cig lighter to wire it, why not just splice right into the self dimming rear view? Power is sent to that every time acc is on or vehicle is running, it would come on every time just like any other acc. in your rig, and save the trouble of running wires all over. I did it to my 97 GP with a Cobra detector, worked like a charm. Thinking about doing it to my '08.

I never understood why people have there radar detectors so high up???

Mine sits low almost touching the dash, to the left of the center piece on the dash, that way if it goes off I can see if it's a cop.....or a damn bank, without having to take my eyes completey off the road.

You can kinda see it in this pic......

Either way, good job on hiding the wires.

i also hid my wire but my radar is to the left of my mirror. Me and my brother tucked the wire and extended to all the way to the rite under the headliner down the window pillar and under the dash to the fuse box and hard wired it so it turns on and off with my car!! its awesome and no wires are visible.

I like the setup you've got. I'd like to do something similar...but I have to be able to remove it when I go onto Base.

how easy is it to unplug the detector with the cord stretched tight like that?

If I were to un plug it it wouldn't go anywhere.

Mine actually tells me what alert it is so I don't have to look over if neccessary. From everything I read it's better to have them mounted higher to get a better signal.

Thanks for all the compliments.

as long as the front/rear have a clear line of site, it works pretty much anywhere you put it. I put mine close to the dash in that little clear space the wipers create while it's raining

I prefer it higher up also, but the cord dangling drive me nuts. I might just splice it into the rear view mirror like you did so I can "hide" it by the mirror

thanks for the idea
