My trucks computer is FRIED!

I was crusing at 30mph when all of a sudden my truck stalled and wouldn't start. My EDGE evolution was stuck on the main screen and the buttons wouldn't work.

My trucks at the dealership now and they tell me the computer is fried and I need a new battery. They cannot reprogram the old computer back to stock, its dead.

Im almost positive my edge malfunctioned but im not totally sure yet untill i send it back to edge so they can diagnose it. The repairs are costing me $1300. Im very mad and kinda wished i never installed it...ANY IDEAS?

I don't think an Edge would fry an ECU unless there was a short in the OBD II connector. Have the dealer pinpoint the cause of the "fry" before they condemn the ECU.

They should be able to identify the cause of the cooked circuitry, such as an overvoltage condition.

What are the chances of Edge stepping up and saying "yeah, it was our device that ruined your PCM. Here's $1300 to cover the bill." ... Not likely.

I'd follow RoushF150's advice, and have the dealer determine and DOCUMENT the CAUSE of the failure. If they can document that it was caused by the tuner, then you'd have a good case against Edge to foot the bill.

What are the chances your truck was fried because you had the Edge installed??? I'd say slim to none. Does the dealer know you had a tuner? If they do of course they are going to blame that.

PCMs don't typically just blow up out of the blue. There may be something else conspiring to your problems.

The Edge just reflashes your PCM, once that is done it is a monitor. The Edge didn't fry your PCM.

^+1. unless you just finnished programing your truck i cant see it having anything to do with the edge. all its doing is monotoring pids. also a PCM cant "fry" just by altering a program. if they cant flash it back to stock there was a definate hardware problem inside the pcm. try a wrecker for a pcm.

true....except for the fact the dealer cant reflash it. doesnt seem like a software issue to me.

You two are like a couple of third graders. It's time to learn to use the big boy potty or there will be no cookies and kool-aid at snack time.

Since the battery is cooked as well it sounds like there may have been a short in one of the cells that fried the PCM. How do the battery cables look? Is there corrosion on them? That will create alot of resistance and could cause voltage spikes that will kill anything electronic. Just like Quintin already said, PCM's don't just up and die.
