Im pretty sure these gates have a spring in them to assist in helping you lift the gate.

Yeah I was aware of that but I thought the OP was speaking of some type of external rod.

If his tailgate was stolen, and he gets a replacement, wouldn't the new tailgate come with a torsion bar built in?

Why then does he need a part number for it?

They do have an assist but I can't remember what it is exactly. Try lifting a tailgate without one I felt spoiled when I moved to the 04 because my 03 didn't have the assist and I had to put some good force on it to close the gate The assist is a nice feature. Just one of those things that makes me happy with the 04

yeah the body shop ordered the new tailgate but it doesn't have the rod in it? its puzzling. I've tried to look up online and no luck

Damn tonka, you get some sand in your vag?

rburtonrmx, this isn't what you're talking about, but you can get one of these on e-bay for ~$50...

Doesn't help with lifting it, but it makes dropping the tail gate nice.

Yeah, I like that setup.

If I didn't have a hard cover, and used my bed more often than I currently do, I'd get it in a heartbeat.
