I can't remember the last time I had battery fail on me. And they have all been the one that came with the truck, oem. Mine started just fine this past winter when temps got down to 28 below zero and didn't have it plugged in. Red top, yellow top. Mines a black top and hasn't let me down yet or the other several other vehicles I've had in the past. Most have lasted 5-6 years. Just check it out when you get a few years on it, if it passes it's good to go for another half year or so. But I admit, I won't go over seven years, that's like rolling the dice. I replaced the battery on my wifes honda at five and a half years just for peice of mind even though I'm sure it would have been fine for another year or two.

I feel the same way. I swapped out the stock battery from my '04 for the Diehard that was in my project car just to get some use out of it. The Motorcraft has been sitting in the other vehicle for about the last 2 years, which is started occasionally and sees a trickle charge every other week or so, it still maintains 12.6 volts. When a battery gets to 6 years I just replace them, if one fails, it's never going to be when your close to home.

I wouldn't doubt that at all. I got one for my Ranger and in less that 2 weeks it was DEAD. Took it back, they tested it and it had 9.7 volts or so. They tried to charge it and after 20 minutes they gave up. Got another and it was good for the 3 weeks I had it till I got my F150.

I still think Optima batteries are overly hyped. I ran a winch, fog lights, 2 110 watt KC's, headlights and radio at the same time when 4x4 on my old Interstate batttery. it held up just fine with 0 issues.
I agree 100%. I would take an Interstate Mega-Tron Plus battery over an Optima any day. With 850 CCA, it definitely will outperform the Optima batteries. If I were going to buy a high-tech battery, it would be the Odyssey PC2150 with 1090 CCA...

Odyssey PC2150T Battery

Now that's a battery!

.. and a price tag, too !!

However two Optima Yellow Tops would outperform it in nearly every aspect.

Not this one...

Odyssey PC2250ST Battery

And that battery takes up about the same amount of space as two Optima yellow tops!

My company produces the Optima battery and leads the automotive market in vehicle power solutions. This mainly being batteries for the hybrid vehicles. I get Optima batteries for $30 dollars and have seen many come to the plant for employees with no problems. It must have something to do with sitting on the shelves. I have had one in all of my vehicles with no problems.
