I too think they are hyped up a lot more than they should be. I've put regular batteries through a lot and never had of a problem. Most I have bought have lasted about 5 years if not more. The wifes old car still had the stock battery in when she totaled it at 7 years old. I put a red top in the TA just for the hell of it when the stock one died at 4 years old after it set all winter. The first winter the optima saw it went dead and would not take a charge so I had to replace it under warranty. I doubt I'll spend the extra money again. i don't usually run more than just a stereo anymore when the engine is not running.

When I got rid of my 99 about a half a year ago or so, it still had the stock battery in it to my knowledge...I had never replaced it for the 4 years I owned it anyway. Motorcraft battery with no date on it...

I ran a 1500 watt stereo in that truck for a good two years, and that included MANY times when the doors were wide open and the stereo blasting...I cant remember how many times I killed that battery enough that it wouldnt even turn the truck over either...at least five.

Started the truck like a champ every time. In cold weather it DID get a little slow though....

Well I'll say this...

The red top in my 04 is now pushing 7 years old. Has been drained dead several times when it was in my old truck, and it still starts my 04 without a lick every day.

I wonder if they realize they need to use a deep cycle charger to charge that yellow top.

Nope more to it than that! I don't live in warm TX! This was a cold/snowy winter, & just feel better having a battery that will start on a 10 degree morning at 6AM, when I need to get to work!.........

They have been hyped....but they used to be a better battery. They've gone down in quality over the past 7 years or so.
