A CAKE MIXER!?!? What the hell kind of girly Home Ec Engineering school is that?!

Just kidding, but sheesh, they could find something a little more interesting for you to CAD out couldn't they?

Wow, sounds like you got one hella of a education under your belt. Good deal

English wheel ?? Where'd you learn to play with one of them old school tools ? Thought that was a dead art. Thats awesome bud !

And the Cake Mixer, although pretty fruity, its not something you have taken apart a million times, makes ya learn something. I dont know, but i think thats where the teach maybe comin from.... although still odd

Alright, need another cold one

Nice, what program are you using, SolidWorks?

We had to do an electric leaf blower, all internals and everything. I might even still have the file floating around somewhere... Did you actually model the teeth for the gears, or just use a circle? I couldn't really tell from the vid.

You have any plans for after graduation yet?

Edit: Ah I just saw the video.. I love solidworks!

Ive got SolidWorks in my office but I'm still using AutoCad. I cant seem to navigate solidworks to save my life. it looks like a nice program but i have no formal education in drafting...learned AutoCAd by reading a book when i was like 14.

SolidWorks is really for 3D stuff only. I've got a couple of tutorials at home I can send if you ever have the desire to mess around with SW. It's a great program for Mechanical Engineers, not so much for Civil though.

That's kinda how I learned AC, although I never use it. 99% of my CAD work is done in MicroStation now. I just use SW for at home projects.

I would love to see a tutorial. Im actualy a buisness student but I also work in the CI department for a manufacturing company. Most of the time I just make dxf files for our plasma and laser cutters but sometimes i do have to draw up or modify parts.

Send me a PM with your e-mail and I'll send you some files. They're from SW 2005, I don't know if there's a new version out yet

Haha, that was our 1st assignment for SW when NC State first got the software. They are (or were) actually pretty good. Enough to get you through all the basics.

Did they change much in the '06 or '07 versions? It's way too expensive for me to buy, so I'll guess I'll stick with my copy of 2005.

Wow... First ME I've seen who uses MicroStation.

Everyone hates us around here.

We just hired a new designer/CAD guy and he's been on Autocad for 11 years. There's quite a learning curve with Microstation.
