Question 4x4 Question

I am considering buying a 2006 F150 5.4 4x4 with 22,500 miles. While checking out the truck I noticed when switching from 2wd to 4wd High a light on the instrument panel lights up. But when I switch the truck to 4wd Low the light goes out and nothing shows up. Is this normal or could there possible be something wrong with this truck? Thanks

When you shifted into 4wd low, did you stop the truck, put it in neutral, and then shift into 4wd low? If not, then you were not doing it correctly and therefore, it was not going into 4wd low. This process keeps you from damaging the truck.

You have to come to a complete stop and put the truck in neutral then put it in 4x4 low. It should come on at that point.

Truck was parked

Truck was parked in parking lot. Did not put in neutral positon. Shifted from park positon. Backed up some then back forward and tried again. Still no 4wd Low light.

Truck has to be in neutral. This puts the transmission and transfer case in the neutral position so you cant damage the transfer case by going to 4low while moving. Also is it shift on the fly or manual 4wd? Doesn't matter just curious.

Yes, but if the truck is in neutral, you should have your foot on the brake pedal anyway, right?
