Well if anyone in this thread is looking for some white caps and you have black we can do an even trade.

OK so let me did through this thread and take a peek at the wiring. I probably won't get to it for a week or so.

I'll assume the wiring is the same for any diagrams I find when compared to the 2010 mirrors (since a few of you said they are the same part number). Oh and these have puddle lights....YEAH HOOOO!

On a side note, this guy paid $250 for the small mirrors. When I asked him why he was selling the towing mirrors he said "I don't tow anything"...I just laughed.

Yes, the top half of the mirror comes off, this is called the "skull cap"

You need to remove the glass, and loosen 4 torx screws, then un clip the cap from the mirror.

I don't have the part number for the chrome skull caps in front of me but let me look later tonight and see what I can dig up.
I would really apperciate it! I looked on the site but unless you have the part number it doesnt do much good! Also I contacted the guy from Tasca in this post and told me they dont have just the skull cap to switchout? Heres his replay e-mail back to me when I was asking for the part number????

Mike,

If you added the mirrors that where in this thread, then Ford does not make a chrome cap for them. Ford makes a mirror that has a chrome cap on it, but you cannot put the cap on the non chrome mirror. It is not a stick on, but attaches to the housing. You cannot remove the cap on the non chrome mirror as it is part of the whole housing.

07_f150_xlt if you need some help PM me. You can cut one of the pins off not needed and use it if you want to and can always move it back if needed for your stock mirrors.

I was going to do the samething as you and buy the pins but figured it wouldnt be worth going and trying to explain to the dealer what i wanted. Also its not like you can see the pins after you cut them. All you have to do is look at the tow mirror and look for a male pins for one that doesnt have the male pin and use that witre just cut it amd move it over. I can probably tell you which one if needed also. I wrote everythinf down. Good Luck!

This is F'in driving me INSANE!!!

I emailed Tasca and got no reply. I then called them and talked to John who gave me a part number for both the black caps and the chrome caps. I thought I wrote it down right but I can't find anything in their catalog. I have google searched me **** off and even checked fordparts and I can't find anything. I would really love to install these this weekend but without being able to replace the nasty white caps with the base black or chrome I'm SOL.

Maybe grab a can of chrome paint and prep it myself...arrgg

Here you go XPerties I just called them and looked up the part numbers while I had the guy on line to verify.

Chrome Skull Caps $14.00
8L3z17d742AA
8L3z17d743AA

Black Skull Caps - $14.00
7L3z17d742AA
7L3z17d743AA

ok now does anyone have a write up on how to change them? I seen in a post above to remove the mirror and change 4 screws but how to you remove the mirror?

hahahaha...I had all the part numbers right except the first number. I had a 9...why, well maybe because I just got off a 14 hour shift

From what I recall of the last 15 pages (yes in the last 36 hours I read every post) you remove the mirror and there are some torx screws that hold it on. In fact I'm off to order and then I'll take mine off since they are sitting in my living room.

Be right back

Holly livin hell.....How do you find them on their site. I put all those part numbers in and I find nothing. Is there a special section you have to go to or a certain format?

This post helped:

http://www.f150forum.com/f38/chrome-...82/#post328506

Also I was able to find the caps and placed my order. Here are some reference pictures that may help. I used a long screw driver and inserted it in the corner or one of the tabs shown here and gentle wiggled the screw driver till one side pop off.

once you pop one corner off the rest is easy. Just be careful. There are 3 screws that hold the cap on and then 2 small tabs at the bottom:

Sorry it's not more detailed. I have to get some sleep as I have 3 back to back 14 hour shifts and the first starts at 10 tonight so I need to get to bed.

Got my chrome caps today.

I plan on installing them first thing in the morning but I just want to recap so if anyone can confirm it would make my morning so much happier.

[1] The image here for the 2005 is what the plug should look like AFTER you move the wires?
http://www.trademotion.com/pages/ind...8&pageid=10207

[2] I have heat, power and turns already on my 2005.

[3] I move pin 9 to pin 8 slot (assuming 8 will be empty?)

[4] Remove pin 2, cut the wire leaving a pig tail and move it to pin 11. Wire the pig tail to the black wire with blue stripe in the drivers door seal that is wired for the doom lights insuring I test it to make sure I have the right one.

I miss anything?
