Belt Squeak...Need Help Fast....Please

Belt Squeak...Need Help Fast....Please

i have a '05 FX4 my warranty runs out in a month...when it is cold out side my belt squeaks...about a min or so it goes away....

took it to the dealer...well guess what...they couldnt duplicate it....

i was wondering if anyone else has had this problem or if anyone may know what may be causing this to happen....

please advise...

also....would it be worth is to extend the warranty?

Buy a goodyear gatorback and put it on.

$25 for a new belt, just change it, keep it away from the dealer they will bend you over for something. I think people recomend Gator belts, and yes mine squeeks too.

yeah, mine used to squeek. Back in 2004, right after it was new only 3k miles, the dealer replaced it under warranty.

Last year it started to come back some when it was dewey/rainy out. Then about a month or so ago it started squealing like crazy. I'm out of warranty now but only have 29k miles. Anyways, I replaced the belt myself with a Goodyear Gatorback belt and haven't heard a chirp since.

I have the gatorback also......best 30 bucks i spent on the truck!

The belt hasn't been squeaking as much lately, but the Gatorback belt is one of the next mods that I will be doing Where did you all get yours?

Get a gatorback. It's a good belt. I put one on after mine started squeaking, and no problems since. It's one of the easiest things to put on.

Advance or Autozone. Not sure which one, but you could search each and find out which carries it. It was a special order part for my 04 FX4. Just go ahead and order one.

Those of you with the Gatorback... anybody running an Edge (or other tuner?)

Running with my Edge on level 2 (stock settings except idle) my belt will chirp when the engine shifts under hard acceleration. Its not a big deal, but a bit annoying.

It sounds like putting on a Gatorback belt will fix this, can anybody attest to that?

PS - is the length on the radiator cowling label? I did a search on summit racing's website and they list 2 lengths for my year/model.

beleive it or not they make some f150's without a/c. I would buy the longer one, for a truck with a/c

thanks, but even after specifying A/C there are still 2 belt lengths left. I'll have to check out my engine labels when I get out of work.

speaking of AC, do not start your truck with the AC on. tends to put more stress on the starter and belt because the AC clutch is engaged. which ends up with a belt that squeaks sooner.

I have 4.5 years and 55,000 miles on my factory belt, only slips during a WOT shift

use the Goodyear website to find the correct belt number for your truck. For some reason, the 5.4 V8 has differrent belt lengths/part numbers for different years.

I then took the part number for my 2004 truck and found the belt on Autozone.com. I just paid for shipping because I don't have an Autozone near by me.

I had this problem on my Dakota... was the serpentine/fan belt. I bought a cheap belt from Autozone and it's worked well since.

Took me like 10 minutes to put it on because it was an auto-tensioning system.

Something else to consider....look at your intake tube, where it connects to the fender. I had a sound on cold mornings for about 1 min, and I could have sworn it was a belt squeek. Dealer couldn't replicate. I took a look, and the intake was loose. I attached it back to the inside of the fender....so more squeek/squeel.
