To be honest...I have no idea...I'm gonna guess that I have the older model..which might explain why I got it for such a good price. It sounds like they fixed some of the issues that I've had so I'd definately recommend this cover depending on what price you could get it for.

I forgot to add that another feature I really like about this cover is that when you fold all the sections back...the whole thing is tilted back towards the rear window, but it has gas rods on each side that hold it in place. They're pretty strong although they don't look that big...you don't have to worry about the cover falling down if you hit a bump.

The G2 covers do not have the gas shocks anymore. They were replaced with adjustable rods that can lock the cover in the upright position to allow you to drive with it open. They also added two small D-rings at the front to allow you to secure the panels down if you only want to open it half way.

What do you think of the quality/durability of the materials?

I really need to find one to check out in person. If it feels solid I would like to pick one up, I just don't get that feeling from the pictures I have seen.

I was actually surprized a bit by the durability. I thought there would be a lot of flext to the cover. The cover is rigid and locks in place nicely. I would not stand on it but I wouldn't hesistate to have my 70lb son dance on top of it. They claim it can support 200lbs of evenly distributed weight but since I don't live in a snow region I won't be able to put that to the test.

To each their own but my impression is that yes, it's pretty sturdy. I 100% agree with you that to decide for yourself you'll need to find one and touch it in person.

I owned one of the original Bakflips and just got my replacement G2 this week and I must say that they made a bunch of improvements and the build quality is great! They addressed all of the issues with the original. Functionally it is the same with the exception of the new locking arms on the G2 instead of the gas shocks. The locking arms are more cumbersome, but at least you can drive with the cover fully open and not have to worry about having a load against it to help the gas shocks. The company is first class as well and I would definitely recommend the G2!

After several requests for pictures of the BakFlip all the way open I've added some to my page. I added 12 more pictures of the tonneau in various stages of open/closed. Check out Page 2 of the orignal link..

Thanks...

Can you try to post the picture again? I'd be interested to see what it looks like with rails. You tried linking it from your computer but it has to be uploaded first.

Thanks!

Just as an update. We've had 20deg weather over the last two weeks and this week we've had heavy rain. It made it thru both (they didn't happen at the same time that God!) with flying colors. I'm still a tad annoyed having to release the cover quickly everytime I want to shut the tailgate but I'm quickly growing used to it. I love being able to lock stuff in the bed without worrying too much..

very helpfull

justi - thanks for taking the time to put together this information. I just traded in my '99 F-150 Lariat for a '07 F-150 King Ranch and the first thing that I want to do is add a tonneau. I had a hardtop ARE cover on the '99 that I liked, but looking for more flexibility this time around.

thanks again!

Sharp truck PimpRohr! You have probably already done it but if not you may want to take a hair dryer to your side seals to flatten em out a bit. Takes about 4 minutes and improves the looks a good bit.
