Morning all. I've been having the downshift OD-3-2 clunk (just started@65000mi.) so I decided to pull the Dshaft and lube the yoke. well when I pulled the shaft out I got some fluid but it looked very grey and smelled like 80-90 gear lube. Does the lube from the factory (the teflon stuff) smell like 80-90?(I used some hitemp teflon/silicone from work). I also decided to check the transfere case so I opened up the fill plug and lo and behold I took a bath in brown ATF. The trunk was overfilled by a little over a QT. Truck was level side to side and a little nose down when I checked it. So 2 ?'s
Why would the fluid leaking out the tail shaft smell like 80-90(or 80-140)?
Anybody else's transfere case overfilled from the factory and so filthy brown although it does not smell burned at all.(and 4WD doesn't get used that often)
