2007 F-150 Problems! Please Help!
2007 F-150 Problems! Please Help!
I have a 2007 F-150 4x4 Lariat supercrew with 40,000km (25,000 miles) on it,
I have 2 major issues with it:
***
1.
1st issue that has been happening since I bought the truck new:
-Sometimes when I turn the key to start the truck, the engine will turn over and sounds like it is going to start, then it will just completely die while the key is being held....
now if I keep holding the key turned forward it will do one of two things after another second:
a, it will make a loud grinding sound (similar to if you've ever heard someone turn the key forward on a vehicle that is already started)
b. it will turn over again and fully start but it sounds like it really didn't like the way it was started.
usually when the truck dies after turning over I will release the key to avoid making that grinding sound! The dash will then say LOW OIL PRESSURE. Then I will turn the key off, and restart the truck and usually it starts up normal, and sometimes it will crank over excessively to start like a 30 year old vehicle on a cold winter morning (a piece of crap), but eventually starting. I will then do the system check on the dash and it will run through everything and say "OIL PRESSURE OK" after it just told me it was low.
I have had the truck for exactly 1 year and it does this sometimes twice in a day, sometimes not for a couple weeks then does it again. I would say on average it does it 5 or 6 times per month. It doesn't seem to matter whether or not the weather is hot or cold or dry or rainy, but I think it seems to happen most commonly after I have driven somewhere and been parked for 15-20 minutes and then gotten back in the truck. So usually not a completely cold engine.
I have taken it to the ford dealer several times over this issue and everytime they tell me they try to simulate what i describe and they can't get the truck to do it again so they can't tell what the problem is unless they can make the truck screw up while connected to the computer. Like I said it's completely random so that is understandable, but it is getting ridiculous. IT's A NEW TRUCK!
So then to make things worse, the dealer guy tries to tell me that I must be starting my truck improperly, says that i should "turn the key halfway first, to turn on all the power, wait a couple seconds, and then turn the key fully forward" So i start practicing this. The result: When i turn the key halfway to turn on all the power (not just the radio but to the point where all the functions in the vehicle come to life), then after I wait 2 seconds and turn it fully forward and start it - during that 1 second while the truck is turning over and starting the dash again reads "LOW OIL PRESSURE." But if i do a system check again on the dash it will say "OIL PRESSURE OK", after it just said it was low like 2 seconds before, during starting. It does this about 50% of the time that I start the truck in the half and half manner suggested by the dealership.

Second issue that suddenly happened yesterday:
I was driving home from dinner and suddenly after turning a corner the truck started vibrating like crazy everytime I touched the gas pedal. The entire truck felt like it was about to blow up. I was going maybe 20-30km/h (12-19mph) at the time. So I would ease up then touch the gas again and same result, massive vibration. So I was about 1km away from home at that point and just drove home slowly and the entire time it was shaking really bad everytime I touched the gas pedal. So I get home and now that I am at a complete stop I notice that it's not just the gas pedal, the entire truck is shaking so bad that I'm moving in my seat. And it's not just shaking, it's making a very loud sound almost in tune with the engine but much louder. I put the truck in reverse to back into the driveway and the gas pedal is shaking so bad everytime I touch the gas, and I almost backed into the house trying to inch up to it because the engine was so jumpy and unpredictable. So I put the truck in park and it's still shaking and I pop the hood to see if I can hear where it's coming from, but I can't really tell which area it's coming from, but it's definetly loud.
So, I leave it for the night, come back out today, starts fine and seems to run normal? The vibration problem didn't seem to come back today but the starting problem happened again today when I was leaving the store.
Also- I have 26" wheels on my truck and the dealer tried to tell me before that I need to pay them $900 to re-calibrate my computer in my truck or my transmission will blow up along with everything else in my truck and that my warranty will be voided because of the wheels. Is this true? Sounds like bull**** to me, the overall diameter of the tires is maybe 1-2 inches bigger than stock I believe. How could this mess up things that badly.
ANYONE KNOW WHAT COULD BE WRONG?? THANKS FOR READING MY LONG POST - ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED!

Get yourself a camcorder and start documenting the problems you're having with your truck. Then show the video to the dealership. It is hard for the dealership to diagnose any problem without being able to duplicate the problem.
As far as your oil pressure low light, as long as it doesnt say low oil pressure with the engine running, you are ok. With the key on and the engine off, the truck will say low oil pressure because it has none.
The first problem sounds a lot like what i have had to deal with off and on with the fuel injector. Ford has finally issued a fix for the Problem

As for your second issue... i agree with the camcorder to document the problem so you don't get the infamous "could not duplicate" response from the dealer

Your first issue with the starting trouble describles the problem I have exactly! Ford was not able to duplicate it and it has been doiong it for 6 months or so now and does not seem to get any worse. I believe it is a leaking injector, so if it ever annoys me enough I will just replace them. Changing the fuel filter and running cleaner through the gas lines did nothing to help with this problem
thanks for the replies,
so does anyone know for sure that if something in my truck blows up (say, tranny or whatever), will my warranty be voided just because I put on bigger wheels?

It can only void your warranty if they can prove the after market add on caused the damage in the first place.

that's for 2005 vehicles only. But as yours is new, take it back to the dealer since it's still under warranty.

First Problem:
My 06 F150 has done that on several occasions also. It's completely random, but it doesn't sound good when it happens. My parents 05 Expedition does the same thing also.
Second Problem:
Video tape the issue and let Ford sort it out. I had to do that with my on going transmission issue. The down side to that is Ford will have time to analyze the videos and find a way to say the driver caused the problem if you go to court over it. This is what happened to me during my lemon law hearing. It sucks when you give them the video to help them find the problem, and they use it against you in court.

wow, so it's happening to others, absolutely ridiculous. It always happens at public places and everyone looks at me like "wow, your truck is a piece of **** buddy" just to make me feel even worse. Not to mention the fact that I paid 50 grand for a truck that sounds like it's not going to last more than a couple years. =(
Ya next time if I get the 2nd problem (crazy vibration) I'll bust out the digi-cam and record it. No worries about a lemon-law hearing - we don't have lemon laws in Canada - you guys are lucky. We are pretty much SOL if we buy a lemon.

Your First Problem:
My truck does the exact same thing you are describing. It's completly random, and always does it when my engine is warm-never when cold.
Your Second Problem:
My truck has never done this. It sounds like maybe a stuck fuel injector. I'm thinking both problems are fuel injector related.
