FORD really has no choice with our 5.4 3v's!

Just think about how many 2004-2007 5.4 3v's are on the road in F-150,F-250, & F-350 & various E-Series configurations & along with the Expeditions , & Excursions..................several million at least?
They all have the same plugs, that sooner or later will need those plugs to be replaced ,FMOCO , has no choice in this matter to step up & make the
situation right with a free plug changeout to a better updated plug at least & if they break them taking out the old poorly designed plugs.......their problemo....I feel as most of these vehicles are comming to the age of when they need new plugs from a simple tune up, that age is now, that FMOCO will have to do something & fast...............

Wishful thinking, Ford's gonna leave this fix up to the aftermarket.

Yes, Ford will leave it up to the aftermarket to develop a better plug for the 3v 5.4. Since '08 will likely be the last year for this engine don't expect them to put much effort into developing a fix.

Some of the people on this board seem to think that the sparkplug problem isn't really a problem at all.

With the absolute Millions of 5.4 3v's out there, I respectfully tend to disagree, I do think that FORD will come out with an updated plug, & will impliment this improved plug at time of tune up along with TSB.......they have no choice in this matter, with the 5.4 3v's...........

In a perfect world, that would happen. Unfortunately, I don't think Ford has admitted that there is a problem yet. Unless you think making a special spark plug removal tool and writing a TSB with a special removal process indicates an acknowledgment of a problem.

There is also the 05-up mustang gt's they have the same 3v heads, and the 06-up explorers and moutaineers with a v-8 also have these same 3v heads.

Due to the shear number of 5.4 3v's out there.........I believe they really have no choice......I hear that something might come out early next year, my friend is a service advisor at www.TASCA.com........;)

I agree there needs to be a solution, but it won't come from Ford.

I have a feeling that the new trucks will come with the optional 4.2l V6 as the best engine and come base with an economy 3.5l v6 with VVT... nope... no more V8s... heck, I heard Ford is going to make a unibody F150, and it is going to be front wheel drive with independent front and rear suspension. How many F150s would you buy then?!

They better not even think about doing such a thing... or they'll be sorry.

Ford will never fix this because that would amount to an admission that it was a mistake. The TSB is as far as this will ever go. FOMOCO does not want to deal with the potential liability (financial and legal) that would result form such an action as redesigning or replacing the 3 valve spark plugs. Our best hope is that the after market comes up with better alternative plugs for the 3 valve heads. Brisk Racing has already provided a couple of alternatives, I believe others are sure to follow. I would like it if Ford did prove me wrong but realistically I know they won't, they can't afford to.

As history has shown the big three do not admit to there mistakes. They just ignore them as long as possible, then issue a T.S.B. and hope that the consumer will pay for their f**k up. Nothing will change until either the feds force them into a recall, or a major class action suit is brought against them.

Not a safety issue so this will never be a recall. Lawsuits may happen but Ford has entire buildings full of lawyers to fight them and drag them through the various courts and jurisdictions for years.
