I'm looking to buy an FX4 and it doesn't have towing package. I know a towing package includes hitch, tranny cooler and wiring. Does it suppose to come with something else?
Also is it the slip differential included on all FX4's?

What should I look when test driving?

Is a 2006 super cab FX4 with 26k miles. Asking price is 23k.

What is a good price to buy?

Doesnt it also have the wireing so you can just plug in a brake controller for a larger trailer? I am not positive but I think so. Just listen for weird noises. I paid 21 for mine a year ago and it is a 2005 with about the same mileage, but it came with the tow package.

 

I don't think they come with the brake controller. The one I'm looking has leather int, 20 inch wheels, fiberglass bed cover.

And is a ford certified vehicle, so includes an extended warranty up to 75 miles on the power train,

 

The L/S is standard on the FX4 models

Listen for any strange noises, tires that are worn more than others, and just give it a good look over once.

The price isn't too bad, maybe just a touch high (atleast for around my area). Get them down to 21 and tell them its a deal, or 23 OTD (including tax, title, and plates).

Not all FX4s have limited slip differentials; being a "off road" package, you think it would. Better Ideas from Ford Motor Company, go figure.

The tow package comes with a class III/IV hitch, an external transmission cooler, the 4 and 7 pin trailer connectors, and a plug in harness for an aftermarket brake controller.

 

21k is the number I have on mind. Is not the color of choice but if the price is rigth I'll take it.

Should I start offering 20k or 20,500?

Some one told me that it also has a bigger radiator, is that true?

It also has the upgraded radiator. I recommend that you keep looking and find one with the tow package. It will be much easier and better than trying to add the stuff later.

 

Sounds like a great deal...dealer gave me $24,000 for my 2004 supercab flareside FX4 with 26,000 miles back in May. My truck was loaded up with every option though. I say go for it.

 

In '04 ( At least up here ) all FX4's came with limited slip...did things change??

 

From the 06 order guide, the tow package consists of a class IV trailer hitch reciever, a 7 pin wiring harness, HD 72 amp battery, upgraded radiator and aux trans cooler. The guide also confirms the 3.73 limited slip is standard for the 06 FX4.

Not having the tow package does not prevent you from towing. Toss a hitch on and your truck will get the job done.

 

Even without the tow package, it will hav an aux trannie cooler. With the tow package, it will have a larger one. As Quintin stated, it may not have a limited slip diff. Look at the axle code on the door sticker. If it is a 2 numbers, it is an open diff. If a letter and a number, it is LS. If the code ends in 9 it is a 3.55. If it ends in 6, it is a 3.73.

Droog, more than likely every one you saw had it, as the LS is put on most vehicles, but it did not come automatically. It came without unless specifically ordered with LS.

 

Just made an offer of 20k, let see what they say. If I don't get a reasonable price on this I'll wait to see if I can find one with same options, moon roof and black.

One thing I really like is that this is a ford certified pre-owned with extended warranty.
